Every business site I regularly check has now slammed Obamacare as a POS. Being a contrarian I find this unananimity disturbing. Is there some hidden killer app in this hunk of junk bill that will aid the US?

I noticed you did not name the "business sites". Why is that????

Yes. This law made by committee to keep monopolistic insurance companies profitable while foregoing all successful models of universal health care in this and other economies appears to primarily by accident stumbled upon an incredibly robust design that virtually guarantees its survival and eventual success while generating an unexpected major stimulus to the economy.

The ACA will achieve all of this because of rather than in spite of its design failures. The first step in insuring all Americans was to eliminate medical underwriting, which has been done. Insurance companies cannot exclude people that might be unhealthy. This stops the death spiral of cherry picking policyholders. Everyone thinks that to accomplish this, the ACA had to guarantee the insurance companies a pool of desirable, healthy, young Americans who would be forced by the individual mandate to buy health insurance. Everybody is bitching and moaning that if enough of these 20 somethings choose to pay the $95 penalty the insurers will go broke. Fat chance. The ACA provides a government run and backed reinsurance fund sort of like deposit insurance. Your business sites didn't talk about that did they?

Since the premium credit is means tested, it functions as an automatic stabilizer just like unemployment insurance, except that it can never run out. Wow! We just invented stealth stimulus!

There are lots more goodies like this so that every piece of bad news generally will add to the success. If the ACA ends up destroying employer and union health insurance plans, then health costs will no longer be a cost component of American unit labor costs, benefitting American business. And all those individual plans Americans can't keep? If they met the coverage standards they would still be on the market. No more $5000 deductible plans that don't cover shit. Those folks are now forced into the exchanges where they will get better coverage with premium subsidies.

First impressions are the biggest, so the stumble out of the gate sure didn't help ACA.

I believe a much better judgement can be made after the dust has settled a bit.

Isn't that a bit like "we need to pass the bill to know what's in it"? I thinking that maybe we're looking at the lull before the storm and that we need to plan for when it really gets bad...

Old fart, you have a lot of nerve responding with a well thought out, well articulated, factual post. If you keep that up, the bar will be raised around here and others might actually have to recraft their automatic, knee jerk, statements.
;)

A worker's paradise, and if they try to leave we'll shoot them for their own good.

What business sites would those be?
the usual suspects:

Bloomberg, au.com, CNBC, Marketwatch; are the sites you have to go to

EconomicIntercept and Minyanville are the free daily subscriptions.

mixed bag of paid, weekly, biweekly and monthly subscriptions.

OK let's get to the nitty gritty. If Obamacare works as advertised then the following is true:

Generic drugs and off label uses will multiply causing big Pharma to shrink.

Higher paid specialists will become lower paid generalists.

That sounds like reduced consumption and employment, how is this good?

Enjoy the obstetric care and lactation training the government decided you have to have.

Because Obama is good and benevolent and wise.

Or so the bootlickers keep telling me.

Chilling.. Herding citizens like cattle for their own good. Not a PRAYER that you are correct about ANYTHING in that psychotic rant..

There is NOTHING in ACA that promotes cost savings or economic stimulus.. You don't START cutting medical costs by slapping HUGE taxes on insurers AND PARTICULARLY every medical device that your doctors and nurses handle.

You did NOTHING to destroy underwriting. The premiums will STILL reflect the composition of the groups they are offered to. And once the "stupid citizens" YOU THINK you are protecting figure out that they DON'T have to be in GOVT exchange, that GROUP will implode with debt and subsidies.

You're deluded. AND you're superiority complex and tyrannical leanings make me ill.

It's not that Daveman.. It's the "transgender reassignment" benefits that OldFart needs and wants. My bet is that OldFart is on Medicare by now and doesn't really GIVE a ratz ass about ripping up peoples lives and the US economy just to give him more control over whatz good for us...

After his "dick-ectomy" --- he'll be a lot more reasonable.

You hush. Obama the Great and Powerful knows all, sees all.

OK, let's put this in simple terms.

The goal of Obamacare is to create medical cost deflation. It says so in the title.

Deflation reduces GDP

Therefore Obamacare's goal is to reduce at least GDP growth.

Why is this reduction of GDP growth desired by the supporters of Obamacare?

Perfect. So you say lowering the price of a product lowers gdp. Got it.
It must be wonderful to be brilliant in your own mind.

Agreed. I think perhaps the most important thing about the aca is that it is a hc platform that can be modified. And it can therefor get improved. I was aginst passage of the aca until there was no other option. Now, perhaps we can add a public option. Then....

Relative to the current aca implimentation, a personal example:
My sister had to leave her job after having a knee replacement. She could not continue to stand on concrete for 8 hour days, with just a single half hour off. No chairs, just on her feet.
So, she had to have insurance. Took Cobra. Her only option, because of pre existing conditions clauses by private insurance companies. Cobra costed her $650 per month. Once she had the option to look at the aca options, she found that her cost in one of the plans available to her is $250. Both numbers are approximate. I am not sitting here looking at here quotes. But I can tell you her savings amounted to just over $400 per month. From a private insurance company, of course. So, the obvious question is why did cobra cost what it did???
