World’s largest free, advanced, industrialized economic zone

God forbid that walmart might have to fill it's shelves with Made in America products again, instead of cheap Chinese crap that breaks in a week.
What our auto industry should do is make cars that make people's mouth's water like they used to. Stop making them as ugly as you possibly can, and put one in every garage just like Henry Ford did. Dodge needs to assemble Dodges in Detroit, not Canada.

Umm, yeah Dodge is a Fiat brand these days, thanks to Obama.

BTW...autos are NOT the only items that Japan exports to the EU....Japan also exports, are machinery, electrical machinery, optical and medical instruments, and chemicals
Yes. And the EU wants to give Japan a huge boost....why?

I like Japan. I hope they do get this deal.

As I said at Brexit....I see an opportunity.

They will agree to anything that harms America, nothing that benefits. So, America has to do what it has to do. Trump wants to get rid of all barriers, they don't as they need to subsidize their socialism, the U.S has done a good job doing so, at the peril of it's own industries.
That is the key to all of this.

Socialism cannot have competition from a capitalist economy. It always fails.

You have identified THE very issue behind ALL this bullshit.

Very well said.

Trump's dumb trade taxes will just make the US auto industry less competitive globally.

The EU is not going to let the Japanese have free trade access to their markets. Not for very long anyways.

This is bullshit.

Germany better find new customers...

I hear the Africans are really in to European cars ...

The above citation is from Japan's PM Abe, describing the deal just struck between Japan and the European Union......a deal that comprises 30% of the world's GDP.

Basically, the free trade deal will have Japanese cars flooding Europe (and making U.S. cars' sale in Europe almost non-existent) .......and will allow Japan to receive European food goods, rejecting Japan's past dependence on U.S. food exports.

Most economists are wondering if this deal between Europe and Japan is an overt rejection of Trump's brand of isolationism from its allies and the imposition of high tariffs.

U.S. car manufacturers and farmers will soon feel the repercussions of Trump's ill-advised trade policies....and especially farmers who comprised a good percentage of Trump's base-support. will soon have to review their faith in Trump policies versus their declining profits.

Lost "customers" are very difficult to lure back.

Sounds like bullshit. The Europeans will not want to let the Japanese have unfettered access to their markets.

If they did, they could have allowed that decades ago.

The same reasons they did not do it then, is the same reason that they will not want to do it now.

Because they believe that having a trade balance favor them, is a big fucking deal. ANd they want it.

Bingo !

Suddenly, Europe and Japan have found economic efficiency ? Maybe they should thank Trump. Both groups are highly territorial and the agreement sounds like it should be printed on toilet paper.

Let me get this straight. according to you, the Europeans are going to buy imported Japanese Cars because they are cheaper than domestically manufactured American Brands. You do know that they make Fords over there.

Ford of Europe - Wikipedia

And let’s not forget GM. General Motors Europe - Wikipedia

Chrysler is owned by Fiat, which is Italian. Do I need to list Fiat’s holdings?

This doesn’t make any sense to me. How is it going to be bad for America if the Fords, and GM Cars are still being built there? I mean, the Police in Britain use domestically produced GM’s called Vauxhall as well as Fords.

As far as competition goes, I’m all for it. It is what makes a better product. However, trade requires a level playing field. You can’t ask me to buy your stuff if you are unwilling to buy mine, or set up so many roadblocks that mine never makes it to market.

take that "bullshit" up with Japan and the EU......Could it be that both entities are a bit tired over Trump's moronic antics???

I'm sure they are. They greatly value those Trade Surpluses and want to keep them.

But by that very fact, neither of them is going to want the other to gain a trade surplus at their expense.

They might be stupid enough to believe their own lies. I doubt it, but maybe they are.

If that is so, if they are stupider than I imagined possible, they might go though with this trade deal.

But the moment they start feeling the effects of actual Free Trade, with someone who is not stupid enough to play their bitch, like we have been?

They will reverse policy asap. Likely under the table, so as to try to keep the PR tool of a "Free Trade Zone" to use against Trump.

But that is the most they can or will do.

US cars have a small presence already in the Eurpe, Europe doesn’t like the mid to full size vehicles.

Or worried.

Of course they're worried....Who wouldn't be when having a lying, megalomaniac making decisions on world trade based on a book that was ghost-written?

What are they worried about? Trade balance wasn't supposed to matter. THose jobs that Trump wants back, weren't supposed to matter, or exist.

And these leaders are supposed to be the smart grownups.

Soooo, why are they worried?
