The above citation is from Japan's PM Abe, describing the deal just struck between Japan and the European Union......a deal that comprises 30% of the world's GDP.

Basically, the free trade deal will have Japanese cars flooding Europe (and making U.S. cars' sale in Europe almost non-existent) .......and will allow Japan to receive European food goods, rejecting Japan's past dependence on U.S. food exports.

Most economists are wondering if this deal between Europe and Japan is an overt rejection of Trump's brand of isolationism from its allies and the imposition of high tariffs.

U.S. car manufacturers and farmers will soon feel the repercussions of Trump's ill-advised trade policies....and especially farmers who comprised a good percentage of Trump's base-support. will soon have to review their faith in Trump policies versus their declining profits.

Lost "customers" are very difficult to lure back.

The E.U.-Japan Trade Deal: What’s in It and Why It Matters

Trump's 25% car tariff would be like taking out the 'bazooka' on a global auto trade war — and Germany could be hit the hardest | Markets Insider

The German auto industry makes up one-fifth of total exports, and the US is its second-biggest destination after China, so any move by the Trump administration could have far-reaching consequences.

"We sympathize with the idea of a level playing field," Ellinghorst said. "However, a 25% import duty (reported potential number) from vehicle imports outside NAFTA would certainly be like taking out the 'bazooka' on a global auto trade war."

Trade tensions are threatening an already hurting auto market in Germany. Diesel-powered vehicles — which make up 39% of the country's car market — fell 20% in the first three months of 2018, according to Reuters. That's after a German court ruled to ban diesel emissions in certain cities.

Ummm...most "Japanese" cars are built in America.

Toyota = Kentucky, Indiana, Mississippi, Texas
Honda = Ohio, Alabama, Indiana
Nissan = Tennessee, Mississippi
Subaru = Indiana

It's not even a "deal" but the NY Times prefers to take the side of Europe and Japan over the interests of the United States as long as a republican is in office. No surprises here.

Germany better find new customers........they are fucked if we impose the Sanctions on their autos..........

How about they lower their dang tariffs.........They are about to get SMACKED...........

Honestly I don't see Chevy and Fords all over their country...........but it would be fair trade.......not protectionism against us by Germany.

Trump is wagering everything on the hypothesis that America still has enough economic influence globally to pull this off.

We're probably gonna find out soon enough.
This was never gonna be a pretty fight.

"The Europeans are expected to scrap a 10 percent tariff on passenger cars made in Japan, over a period of seven years. Duties would come down more rapidly for some car components."

So, countries are starting to give up on protectionism?

Sounds good to me.

:dunno:

Sounds like bullshit. The Europeans will not want to let the Japanese have unfettered access to their markets.

If they did, they could have allowed that decades ago.

The same reasons they did not do it then, is the same reason that they will not want to do it now.

Because they believe that having a trade balance favor them, is a big fucking deal. ANd they want it.

And so are German cars. These tards are just stupid and easy to fool, that's all. Let's see how Europe reacts to a flood of Jap cars dumped at below costs and their own auto plants shutting down.

Oh wait, it's never going to happen in the first place; never mind, just 'globalist' propaganda aimed at convincing the American public to keep on slitting its own throat and subsidizing outsourcing and the Red Chinese economy and they increase their military and escalate their imperialist bullying of all their neighbors.

Actually this agreement supports Trumps initiatives and potential tariffs on cars. He is asking for these very same players to break down barriers as America has for them for so long, instead they try and have their cake and eat it too.

Everyone glosses over the deal of a lifetime for the G7, "no tariffs, no subsidies no barriers" to trade. Why didn't they accept it?

They especially don't want to get rid of subsidies, that's why. They pay back their donors and screw the Middle Class in their efforts to maintain their own jobs.

They will agree to anything that harms America, nothing that benefits. So, America has to do what it has to do. Trump wants to get rid of all barriers, they don't as they need to subsidize their socialism. The U.S has done a good job a lowering trade barriers at the peril of it's own industries, now since it's clear few want to play fairly, they face the consequences of U.S retaliation.

God forbid that walmart might have to fill it's shelves with Made in America products again, instead of cheap Chinese crap that breaks in a week.
What our auto industry should do is make cars that make people's mouth's water like they used to. Stop making them as ugly as you possibly can, and put one in every garage just like Henry Ford did. Dodge needs to assemble Dodges in Detroit, not Canada.

Japanese population is declining by around 1 million people every year. Plus they're big savers. Yeah, we're really worried ...

True......(although quite a few Japanese cars are ALSO made in Mexico)....however,
since about 30% of these vehicles are still made in Japan, why did you conclude that the EU would only buy Japanese cars made in the U.S.???

take that "bullshit" up with Japan and the EU......Could it be that both entities are a bit tired over Trump's moronic antics???

The fucking EU doesn’t even have fair trade IN THE EU. How the hell will they ever handle another country as a group?

BTW...autos are NOT the only items that Japan exports to the EU....Japan also exports, are machinery, electrical machinery, optical and medical instruments, and chemicals.
