President Obama says that "economists from across the political spectrum agree" on the need for massive government spending to stimulate the economy. In fact, many economists disagree. Hundreds of them, including Nobel laureates and other prominent scholars, have signed the statement that appears in the Cato Institute's ad in the New York Times and in other national publications.

Heee's not listening... :eusa_snooty:

Massive government spending hasn't worked yet with the first stimulus package. It isn't going to work with the second either. It didn't work with FDR in the 1930's. World War II bailed him out of that recession. It didn't work with Japan in the late 1980's and 1990's. What it will create is more deficit, and plenty of inflation. What it will create is more big government. It will create more welfare. Can one person tell me what the government has done that really worked well??? Our military is the best example I guess, but they are trying to change that, too.

No shit sherlock. The banks have not used the money the way they said they would.

No, let's go back to the last 8 years of the magic of the RNC Tax Cuts. They will solve everything.

"economists from across the political spectrum agree" Actually true, X. He didn't say "all".

Tax cuts aren't bad, but the government has to cut it's spending as well.

yeah, why would we want people to keep more of what they make?

they'd only buy new radios to listen to Rush or books by Ann Coulter

Rayboy..you numpskull....the banks aren't using the money as the politicians thought they would. That stimulus package didn't require them to use it in any special way. See, this is what is wrong with your Big Government Mentality....it don't work, dude...so chill those jets of yours a little, OK???? As far as economists are concerned, far more say that goverment intervention will not work as the private sector would. Goverment intervention does not correct the problems that the business got themsleves into. Intervention may impede the business even more by stipulating how to run the business. This is not the goverments job...the goverment is run by a bunch of lawyers, not economists, not healthcare specialists, or bankers. They do know how to manipulate laws, though. So don't give them that much credit dude. Also, get over the Bush administration...I wasn't a big fan of his either, but he's gone now.

I think he meant Keynesian economists across the board.

Yup! That's exactly what he meant.

This plan will not work.

It might provide some relief to millions briefly, and a lot of relief to those well connected enough to win big in the fixed economic stimulus lottery which only the truly political enfranchised are entered in.

But as far as I can see it does absolutely nothing to solve the systemic mistaken notions that are killing our economy.

Yep, but our grandchildren and great grandchildren will be paying for it.

I certainly hope that people aren't stupid enough to vote these idiots into office again. I am proud to say that I didn't vote for anyone who was for the bail-out.

Bush is the biggest spender. We saw how well that worked. Maybe Obama can outspend Bush. He's certainly off to a great start.

Neither tax cuts nor spending is going to have any real impact. The global economy is simply too large for any possible amount of government fiscal policy to have any impact. If we completely eliminated ALL taxes that would still would have negligable impact. This stimulus bill's direct impact spending amounts to less than 3% of GDP!! We would need a 5-10 TRILLION dollar bill to have any REAL impact. And no one on earth is capable of lending us that much. No one today can even lend us the 800 Billion.....so that isn't happening anyway even if it does get passed it can't be spent because it can be raised!!!

yes but we're not building a new dam or interstate highway system.

we are resurfacing roads and spray painting bridges.
