Will Bernie Sanders Become the First Jewish President?

*facepalm*

Can it get more racist than the OP? I guess birtherism is right up there. Guess that makes sense, since Hillary Clinton is mother of the birther movement.

In any event, as a Republican I find myself favoring a Sanders Presidency more than a Clinton Presidency in many ways. It's kinda strange. It's had me a bit conflicted. For me, it comes down to the fact that Clinton is far more partisan than Sanders. I think Sanders would be much more willing to work with Republicans than Clinton would be. But I'm very concerned with his age. I'm not sure he would be able to stand up to the rigors of being President. Theoretically, I'd support a Sanders/[insert strong VP option here] ticket over a Trump/[insert anybody] ticket.

If it does come down to Trump v Clinton, I'll probably be giving an immigration lawyer a call.
what is op?

Sanders gives me the willies.

My short answer: I certainly hope not, but not because he's Jewish, per se.

I have viewed many of Bernie Sanders' Presidential debates as of late, and I must confess he does exude a certain "hypnotic" charisma and passion when speaking about his political views. But I could never vote for him as President of the United States because of one simple yet blatant character flaw: his utter lack of conviction with regard to his being "proud to be Jewish." I just have a really difficult time believing such a disingenuous statement.

Scour the internet as you like, but I challenge anyone to find a single image of the Senator wearing a yarmulke, or displaying the Star of David on his lapel, or even within eye-shot of a background synagogue or distant mantelpiece Menorah. I just get this spooky sort of 'chameleon' vibe about Bernie Sanders, and I could never endorse that quality in any presidential capacity, be it corporate, political, or otherwise. In his own roundabout way, Senator Sanders pretty much says that he is a private Jew and a public Catholic. Much too flippant for me. We should all be proud and open about our individual cultures and beliefs when running for public office. It's not about transparency, it's about sincerity.

In closing, I should mention that I did actually find one (1) image of the Senator wearing a yarmulke, but that was him playing a Rabbi in a stage play during the late 90's. It doesn't matter to me if my president is Jewish, Catholic, black, white, male or female … as long as he/she can push that Button if called upon. Or more importantly, not.

Isn't the usual RW position that "Americans are Americans, not hyphenated-Americans"? Why has this suddenly changed?

Would RWs be happier if Sanders identified himself as a "Polish-Jewish-American"? Why? Just so y'all can make your "hyphenated-American" speech?

:cuckoo:

It's Lahota's thread, and he's pretty much to the left of .... Bernie. (-:

True, but he's also for Hillary No Matter What.

The thread is lame.

I hope not. Israel causes enough trouble without having a Jewish U.S. president.

A look into the Jewish side of US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders

Look this nation is not going to elect a Socialist. The reason this old fart is even on the stage is because he is promising "free college educations"--in which the youth of this country believe they're going to get for free. Even if he became the President that proposal wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell of passing the Senate floor, or the Congress as even Democrats would say NO to that.

Republicans mouths are watering for a Bernie Sanders nominee because he would get slaughtered in the General Election. Mickey Mouse could beat him.

They fear Hillary Clinton--that's why they are constantly attacking her. She will be the first woman Presidential nominee in this nations history, and they know that women rule today as being 54% of the voting block. They don't have one single Republican candidate that can defeat her, and they know that.

You would have to be really STUPID to support Bernie Sanders.

Sanders identifies as American, not Jewish.
But being a secular Jew, he takes the trait of charity to an extreme as do most assimilated Jews.

Dorkhota "asks" the dopey question, "Will Bernie Sanders Become the First Jewish President"

The answer is clearly "of course not."

One needs to WIN, first, to be the President and there is simply NO WAY that the American people will vote for a self-avowed "socialist."

Bernie will continue to be just a schmuck.

:uhh:

It seems to me that you are complaining that Sanders does not wear his Jewish identity on his sleeve and letting it define him, which is incredibly racist and stupid. I am a Jew. I'll be the first to acknowledge that many Jewish people wear it on their sleeve as if trying to claim special privileges. And that is exactly the reason why I refuse to be like that. I'm not the only Jewish person who feels that way. Maybe Sanders doesn't want to be like so many other low life pieces of crap who insist on using some minority status as if it were some kind of weapon to be wielded to be given special treatment. Expecting him to be such is racist, and criticizing him for being such additionally racist.
