There is a thoughtful article by this title in the January issue of Commentary Magazine. It can be accessed by logging on to www.commentarymagazine.com. Click on the first heading listed, "Commentary", and it will give you a table of contents. Should be the first article listed. The author is Joshua Muravechik. The article is too lengthy (over 13 pages) to bring to the board.

interesting story.

Traditionally it come down like that in the US , UK and Germany.

Security and Law & Order are the strongpoint of the conservative parties.

Any election that has this as the main point end usually bad for the left.

Bush's team messed up the postwar Iraq but still Kerry represented the
typical whiny antiwar liberal. Especially the Anti Vietnam activism
during wartime does not qualify. His phony only 4 month service
is better then Bush but still pathetic.

Law & Order is connected to morals. The War on Terror was pretty much the only topic here up in Idaho. Bush won by 30 or 40% over Kerry.

After 9/11 maybe Clark would have had a shot. But the antiwar stand after congress gave Bush card blanche was hard to sell without looking like hypocrites.

Weak candidate during a war. Thats not gonna happen.
