Why Is the US Military Rationing Meals? They Have a $770 Billion Budget.

What’s Going On?

31 May 2022 ~~ By Joe Hoft

What is going on? The US Military is rationing food on at least one huge aircraft carrier. Why is this happening? Doesn’t the military receive hundreds of billions of dollars each year? Where is the money going?
This Memorial week we received information that the men and women on US aircraft carrier, the USS Harry Truman, are receiving food rations. This makes no sense.
The USS Harry Truman is not at war. It is not in harm’s way. It is in the Mediterranean Sea near the conflict in Ukraine but not in the Black Sea.
Around 5,000 personnel are on board this huge carrier. Reports are coming out that the ship is rationing food. Why is our military doing this? It makes no sense. They are only receiving two meals a day.

Where are the billions going? Who is making the call to ration meals for our soldiers? Is this the love and respect they get from the Biden/Obama Administration? It appears that this is punishment, but for what? Why are our soldiers being treated this way? Is this just another effort to destroy the US military? First, Biden had forced vaccinations – now food rations – what is going on?

Commentary:
What is disturbing is food rationing for our military that aren't deployed to war accomplishes a few things for the criminals running our government.
It dissuades military personnel from reenlisting, a purge of the military so they can remake it in their own image.
It reduces the spending on people that they don't care about so that they can funnel the money to their own pockets and projects.
It gives the Biden government a way of punishing military that haven't taken the jab as they have demanded.
They are trying to purge the military while making money doing it.
The good thing about that is that when the revolution does come, all the highly trained military personnel will be with the revolutionaries.

You don't actually believe that money goes to the troops right?

get a real reliable source next time.

I don't know if the story is true or not, but if it's true I can see two possible reasons. One, the supply officer screwed up and didn't allow for an extended deployment this late in the fiscal year and Two, it's the end of the fiscal year and the ship ran out of budget and is having to extend it's existing food supply. Both are failures of the Supply Officer since it's his responsibility to make hios budget cover the entire fiscal year with a safety surplus left over. Most units operate well within their budgets to make sure they have a safety zone, they go spending sprees the last month of the fiscal year to use up their budgets because budgets are "use it or lose it".
I haven't seen any comments relating to other ships of the battle group, so the issue, if it really exists, is limited to the carrier.

It can only be the fight against obesity.

The more healthy ones will suffer less effects from possible radiation sickness.

What a weird claim; the military has always rationed supplies in the field. Why would a carrier be any different re supplies and storage?

Did some lard assed pregnant tranny officer file a lawsuit over a shortage of cupcakes?

I think we are in a vicious cycle of extended deployments and can't break out of it.

The Truman went out in December, they would normally be at the end of the deployment now. Austin extended it in March, and there is talk that it could last until August. So instead of 6-7 months, they may be looking at 8-9 months.

Then, because the longer deployment means they will break more stuff and have more maintenance to do in port, it takes longer to get them back out. So the CVN they are scheduled to relieve also has to extend it's deployment, now it will need more time in port, and the cycle continues...

I think we are in a vicious cycle of extended deployments and can't break out of it.

We have been out of that for well over a decade, where have you been?

By even 2009, the average deployment was 6 months or less. Even by then, about the only units that did year long deployments anymore were the Air Defense units because the equipment and area takes so long to train into that shorter ones made no sense. It takes a month or more to get up to speed in the new location, and a month to train the next unit coming in. So spending 2 months out of a 3 or 6 month deployment just doing that made no sense.

The Navy has always done 6-12 month deployments, there is absolutely nothing new in that either. It has been that way for a century or more, and has no application in the current global situation.

IF this is true, I would think it might be a manpower issue. I read that on a U.S. carrier fully 10% of the crew is involved in food preparation in some way. That amounts to several hundred personnel who might need to assist in vital maintenance and other tasks.

6-7 months is the stated target.

Six-months of maintenance, six-months training, one-month sustainment, seven-months deployed, seven-months sustainment, seven-months deployed, followed by two-months sustainment.

I don't know if they are rationing meals on the Truman or not. It seems unlikely to me because anyone who is hungry can go to one of the shops on board and get something to eat. There are 4 meals a day and enlisted can just go into a mess and grab a tray when they're off duty. I don't think there is anything to it, enlisted don't pay for meals.

I just noted that the deployment was extended in March, that can potentially cause some issues with ships stores.

Also the Ford is supposed to take over for the Truman, and Ford won't be ready till something like August.

I'm not sure the Med at this time is the best place for a first deployment of a new class CVN, I guess we'll see.
