There's certainly nothing wrong in and of itself with someone participating in the political process without standing for office.

Honestly, what's so wrong with using fuels like oil and coal to power our economy. Why do so many people oppose anyone that supports it or works in it. We're damn lucky to have "big" oil pumping it out of the ground into our tanks.
