Why do the anti God crowd attack the bible ?

YWC doesn't follow a religion, he doesn't like them.

Nothing in the Old Testament says "stop taking this seriously after such and such time period."

According to the Old Testament, it's your duty as a believer to kill non-believers, it says this clearly, concisely and repeatedly. Now when I hear people don't take the Old Testament seriously, I like that, but YWC takes the Old Testament as seriously as the New.

Er..who said not to take the OT seriously?

Someone who refuses to take it in context or to view it as a whole is either not taking it seriously, interpreting according to their own personal agenda, or just being dishonest.

If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

I guess no one says not to take the OT seriously, but thankfully not really anyone does, or humankind would be bordering on extinction.

Tell me how I should "intepret" the above passage.

I already did.

And as has been pointed out repeatedly, CHRISTIANS adhere to the new covenant of the NT...which fulfilled the OT and provided us with a new way to access heaven.

As has also been pointed out...the directives you find so repugnant are all OT ones, which were strategies for survival and war, NOT ONGOING ADMONITIONS.

Allie,i am a fan of yours.

You are very honest, i like that.

Here we go the old guilt card again.

You didn't really tell me how to interpret it. You actually are telling me to insert a time scale which the passage says absolutely nothing about.

But like I said, thank you for not taking his word seriously in this instance.

Just seems hard to devote my life to worshipping someone who commands me to murder my family, call me crazy.

I didn't say anything about guilt. There's nothing to be guilty of because you guys don't take that command seriously, I'm saying that's a good thing.

If I post passages from the Old Testament that I take issue with, would you guys mind going through all of them and telling me how to interpret them?

To you its everything.

To most people on the earth its merely a book

No it's not everything.

I enjoy life, my family,my friends, golf, paintball, and my Arizona Cardinals.

Then why do you hate the people who dont see the book the same way you do?

Why are you so insensed that some dont see it the same as you that you had to come to a site and call out the people who you think are horrible because they dont share your particular slice of one religion.

I dont believe in the bible being the word of any god.

There are no gods.

Its a book written by several people during many periods and all squished together.

Like man it is flawed.

My asessment is based in fact.

Yours is based in faith.

You see faith as something marvelous.

Faith is believing without proof.

Because I rationally see the bible for what it is you think that is hate.

Your made up god drives you to hate for your faith?

How is that good for the world?

No, apparently you aren't capable of figuring it out on your own, even with direction.

I was giving you too much credit, I thought you were honestly seeking understanding, but I see that you're just as disingenuous as any of the others who trot around deliberately lying and misrepresenting Christians and the bible.

So prove he hates non believers, and link it. I haven't seen anything whatsoever like that.

I have seen a LOT of hatred towards believers.

For example, your post is demonstrative of hatred towards someone based upon their faith. I can identify it as hatred because it's a lie. Anyone who deliberately lies about a group of people in order to bring judgment upon them is a proponent of hate.

Is this directed at me?

If so what have I lied about and how does quoting the Bible directly misrepresent it?

Or is this just more "I'm Allie I'm the World's victim" talk?

Actually, that was directed at TM.

And you have me confused with someone else, I'm no victim.

YWC considers me as part of the anti-god crowd who attacks the Bible.

He has an amazing ability to ignore my signature with a beautiful Bible verse in it, in every single post I make.

Yes I will attack the ideas of child murdering, demonizing rape victims, and the encouragement of genocide on people who don't have the same beliefs as you. That doesn't make me a hero, 99.99999999% of living breathing humans know those things are horrible, which is why when god orders those things in the old testament people ignore them for the most part today. Our moral compass has outgrown that of God's of the Old Testament by lightyears.

So you pick and choose what you will believe from the book ?

The whole book is either inspired by God or it is not ?

No I don't take any of it as fact, I don't believe in your God or any other god(s).

But I like a lot of the life lessons and principles in the New Testament, only one I can think of that I don't is the gay-hating.

That my friend is why God is not popular with you.

It's too much for you to take in.

Sigh.

This thread wasn't schizo enough, so we're glad you've joined to make it more confusing and destroy all the integrity of the discussion, TM.

you have just demonstrated you have no integrity by claiming you wrote that post for me.

Yes, I'll never take in principles of bigotry.

But I won't become christian until the Bible is proven to be fact. I'm a man of facts, not a man of faith. So until snakes can talk, until there's evidence the world is 6,000 years old or less, until it's proven men can survive inside whales, I won't take the Bible as fact.

You have completely read me wrong.

What i don't appreciate is someone not having a clue what the scriptures mean and cherry pick scriptures to attack it.

When did i ever say i hate anyone ?
