Maybe the question should read "Why won't people accept Christianity?" I won't because Christianity has a violent history. And there is no need to remind me that Islam has a violent past as well. I refuse to be a Muslim for that very reason.

There is no point in denying that Islam thrived and prospered because of the carnage inflicted upon others, however the same can be said about Christianity, it also thrived and prospered through violent means. If Christianity had practiced the message of peace Jesus wanted (Matthew 5:44) it wouldn't have survived at all, come to think of it.
