FDR was the best!

Reagan was the one that destroyed our middle class and flooded our country with the third world. He sucked.

I bet all those Japanese-American CITIZENS he interned during WW II don't think so.

You've destroyed yourself son by thinking the government should do for you what you're too damn lazy to do for yourself. FDR created that mindset and freeloaders like you ran with it.

Agreed. FDR wasn't the first Progressive, but he was the first successful one. Gave us the total mess we are in today.

The best POTUS is hard to pick. I could make a case for 4 or 5. It wasn't Reagan though. He did a lot of good but he made some mistakes as well. Trusting the Democrats was his biggest.

Lincoln was the gold standard for US Presidents.

Lincoln did what he could at a difficult time. However, he destroyed states rights and sent the US on a path to tyranny. Not anywhere near the best.

I disagree.

Lincoln had to govern in war. Not just any war. A civil war. He had to make decisions that would win the war and keep America together.

It wasn't easy.

Was he perfect? Hell no but the decisions he made saved America and that's why I think he was the gold standard for Presidents.

I agree.

FDR was a great war leader but everything he did as POTUS extended the Great Depression.

The only thing that stopped it was WWII.

Mathew should do a little research on FDR before spouting off at what a great president he was.

Maybe you should.

Here's the thing. The Great Depression was a World Wide Depression, and EVERY Country did what FDR did, and that was to greatly expand the reach of government into all aspects of the economy and increase government spending.

Our entry into World War II allowed FDR to do what he really wanted to do all along- Tax the snot out of the rich, spend the money on infrastructure, nationalize key aspects of the economy. The end result of that was an economic boom that lasted until 1970s'.

Even Republican Presidents - Ike, Nixon and Ford- knew well enough to not fuck with this arrangement.

Did he save America? He created the America we have today but he destroyed the America our founders created. No he wasn't perfect and that's my point, he isn't the best.

I bet all those Japanese-American CITIZENS he interned during WW II don't think so.

At the same time he was doing that, the British were violently putting down revolts in their colonies, the Germans were slaughtering millions of people, Stalin was killing people left and right, the Japanese were carving swathes of death through China.

Was it bad? Yup. But give it a little perspective. We locked up 110,000 people because of public opinion, most of them were released within a year.

By comparison, the British held German POW's for YEARS after the war ended, because they were used to having them around to do schlub work.

You've destroyed yourself son by thinking the government should do for you what you're too damn lazy to do for yourself. FDR created that mindset and freeloaders like you ran with it.

YOu know, you might have a point here.

You are right, I want government to do things I can't do for myself.

I really can't keep all the roads I have to travel in good repair. I kind of expect government to do that.

I can't inspect every bit of food I eat to make sure that it's safe to eat, and I can't personally purify the water that I drink. I kind of expect government to do that, too.

The problem with "Libertarians" is that you guys want all the benefits of living in a civilized society without having to make any of the sacrifices to do so- paying taxes, obeying sensible laws, and so on.

That kind of makes you the "Freeloaders", doesn't it?

Because I would happily have a discussion about how we can do food stamps or section 8 better so that people aren't abusing it. Except I think the people who are abusing it are WalMart and McDonalds paying people starvation wages and then telling their employees to apply for these things.

Perspective? There isn't one. They were locked up for one reason only. They happened to be the same heritage as those we were fighting.

Not a Libertarian. I don't have a problem paying the taxes for the government to do things for which it is authorized to do. What you want the government to do goes beyond roads, safety, and sensible laws. You support government programs that enable people to get by with not doing things they are capable of doing.

No such thing as starvation wages. If someone with low skills is getting paid and equivalent wage to those low skills, if they are starving perhaps they should look in the mirror and see the person providing those low skills then do something to improve those skills. Wait, you want the government to fund things for them.

You say certain ideologies don't want to pay the taxes that go to fund what you call sensible laws and that living in society means paying taxes. When is the last time you heard a food stamp recipient or Section 8 recipient ask to pay the taxes that fund what they get? You don't yet you're perfectly fine with them benefiting from society while not contributing to it.

Bullshit. All of it.

FDR was a worthless piece of shit. Our entry, and not FDR, is what got us out of the Great Depression. Anyone that says otherwise is a fool and hasn't studied history.

Life was good during the Roosevelt years. When he died in the spring of 1945 people wept all over this great nation......even more than when John Kennedy was assassinated. I was eleven years old and living in Oak Ridge, TN. Oak Ridge was created by FDR and his appointed general...Leslie Groves and Oak Ridge produced the fissionable uranium which made the bomb dropped on Hiroshima and contributed to the ending of the second world war. I might mention that Harry S. Truman made the decision to use that bomb.

Without even mentioning the methodical recovery from the Hoover depression FDR was greater than any two of the others combined. Maybe that's why he was elected four times.
Maybe that's why the Republicans didn't let their shirt tails hit their asses till they put a maximum two terms on the presidency.

Abraham Lincoln

Franklin D. Roosevelt

jfk

barak obama

why are you making our choices for us? i wouldn't put this president in that list. i wouldn't put him at the bottom either.

but some of the winger choices in this thread are funny.

coolidge? really?

friend of the kkk who probably sped up the coming of the depression .... can't say i'm surprised that some on this board found the failed coolidge to be great.

And because White People were scared shitless. Right now, you have Trump threatening to do the same to Muslims in this country and people like you wildly supporting him.

actually, what I want is WalMart and McDonald's to pay a fair living wage for the benefit of the labor they are getting, just like every honest company does, and not expect me to do it.

I think you are a little confused over who benefits from Food Stamps. The purpose of food stamps is to create demand for food to make it worthwhile to grow. If only those who could afford food bought it and we let supply and demand do it's thing, we'd be back to when milk farmers wer dumping milk they couldn't sell.

Kind of the same for Section 8. The purpose of Section 8 is to benefit property owners by keeping their units occuppied. Otherwise you'd have a lot of abandoned buildings with squatters in them because no one would bother to maintain them.

You see, I understand how this stuff confuses you.

friend of the kkk who probably sped up the coming of the depression ....
LOL, yeah that's why he was the first President to argue in favor of civil rights for African Americans and gave Native Americans citizenship.....

can't say i'm surprised that some on this board found the failed coolidge to be great.
Yeah I understand, picking up an history book written by an objective author would interfere with your prodigious partisan propaganda consumption regime.

Run along now .... you got work to do, there are still a couple of native tribes in the Amazonian Rain forest that haven't been made aware of just how ignorant you are.

Are you Stupid???

George W. Bush assumed a thriving economy with an unemployment rate of 4.3% and left a goddam mess. You people and your limited vision make my asshole crave lime juice. Here's his picture...you folks can't re-write history......as much as you'd like to. Right now.....as we speak we've had 70 consecutive months of job growth in this country. You people just don't like Obama's good tan. At least he didn't have to get it in a tanning salon like ol' John Boehner did.

I guess if you expect the government to do for you what you are capable of doing for yourself, Progressive is the way to be. I prefer to do for myself. Maybe you don't.

With all that job growth, why is food stamp use growing? If people are working, they shouldn't need the rest of us to take care of them.

The purpose of food stamps is to provide food to freeloaders who won't do it for themselves.

I can understand how someone with a pitiful work history like yours would be wrong.
