nice compendium from our friend Ed M. over at Hot Air....

I am most eager to see how the blame game plays out since we have had enough mixing and matching between parties as to who controlled what chambers, split or not, who had the exec. at specific points in time, with what chambers etc. over the last 40 years...;)

Well your own charts speak to the problem in spending. It is mostly in entitlements and specifically Medicare..... hmmm who passed Prescription Drug benefits.

Also most of the increase is discretionary spending is a result of the wars in Iraq and Iran..........

Just where was all this Republican concern for the national debt when they controlled the White House (2001-2009) and both Houses of Congress (2001-2007)?

Under the stewardship of the Bush Administration, the national debt not only DOUBLED (up by $6.13 trillion), but the rich were given tax cuts who then proceeded to reward their benefactors by exporting jobs and running the economy "into the ground!"

Agreed! they should have cared then. At least they care now. The debt is much worse than it was then and deficits are higher. It can't last. Im for the guys who want to fix it, as political an agenda they may have.

The same guys in Congress who voted to create that $6.13 trillion increase during the Bush Administration also supported the Gingrich led "debt ceiling" shutdown of the federal government in 1995/96 during the Clinton Administration when the GOP controlled both Houses of Congress.

This was despite the fact that the national debt actually DECREASED under the Clinton Administration by 9.7%. The irony is that there were no subsequent attempts by Republicans in Congress to impose a debt ceiling under the Bush Administration despite the fact that the debt load INCREASED by 27.8% (the largest increase since 1945).

Republicans are using the same "refusal to increase the debt ceiling" tactic now then that they did them. This whole controvery is 1995/96 revisited - so why should the country have any confidence that the GOP is more sincere about addressing the problem now, than it was then?

It was the same thing under Bush Sr., if they just spend enough on the rich while they are in office, it creates a massive debt to where no social programs will occur on the Democrat watch. And that is exactly what Bush had in mind. What the GOP had not counted on is Obama pulled their bluff and spent money on the citizen slaves of America. And even then the GOP Party of No and do whatever it takes has drug their anchor through congress.
