White House Checking IDs of High School Students

Problem is - what is "reasonable suspicion"?

There are legal standards for "reasonable suspicion", just as there are for other concepts such as "reasonable doubt" and "reasonable person".

Yup, be a witness to a crime. Have a car on blocks in front of your home, have a busted tail light....harsh things like that.
The state of AZ has amended the language that clarifies the law and makes it clear that racial profiling is illegal. Further it specifies exactly what "lawful contact" means. What are your talking points now that we can toss the "racial profiling" strawman out?

Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday signed a bill modifying Arizona's controversial new immigration law, saying it will "make it crystal clear and undeniable that racial profiling is illegal."

The governor's signature on House Bill 2162 modifies a measure signed into law by Brewer last week that requires police to inquire about the immigration status of anyone they reasonably suspect to be in the country illegally. Barring a successful legal challenge, the law goes into effect July 29.

HB 2162 bars race from being considered when deciding whether to inquire about a person's status, "except to the extent permitted by the United States or Arizona Constitution."

The bill also clarifies that law-enforcement officers shall inquire about the immigration status only of those they "stop, detain or arrest." The earlier bill simply said "contact." The change is designed to allay fears that officers would have to examine the papers of anyone they spoke to, including crime victims and witnesses.

"These changes specifically answer legal questions raised by some who expressed fears that the original law would somehow allow or lead to racial profiling," Brewer said in a statement.

With that.... this info appears to end the argument. It has been proven now that racial profiling will not be allowed.

So what are the legal standards for "reasonable suspicion" that someone is an illegal alien?

If the person is suspected of committing a crime, having committed a crime, or about to commit a crime, the police have the authority to Stop and Identify (this applies to citizens as well). If the stopped person cannot provide valid identification, the police officer has a reasonable suspicion that they might not be in the country legally.

The way for that individual to remedy the situation is get access to their ID, and satisfy the Identification requirement.

If you don't want to be deported in Arizona for being an illegal immigrant.... don't be an illegal immigrant.

Or be a legal one and carry your paperz at all times. Imagine having your 6th grader carrying around his or her original birth certificate to school everyday. You see, if two kids get into a fight on a school bus and the driver of the bus calls a cop over for help, all the legal and ilegal hispanics on that bus are opened to questions about his or her citizenship. That cop will not ask citizenship to the white kids. How much does that suck?

Imagine this in America! ?? Doesn'T affect any illegal Irish, Polish, European immigrants, only the brown ones of course. You see, the ones with a little color will be the ones affect by this crap. This is why most (majority, not the minority) people think its ok. It doesn't affect you.

Federal law already requires that legal immigrants carry their papers (generally a Visa or Green Card) on them at all times. I'm not sure how this affects children, but it's reasonable for adults to carry such documents with them.

It has nothing to do with color - playing the RACE CARD just shows how bankrupt your argument that we shouldn't enforce our own laws is.

Not acceptable...you have to have your original birth certificates if you brown now here in arizona...well thats what proposed. (By the way, this wont pass).

As far as the "race card" is concerned......be truthful with this.

A cop witnesses two people walking down the street here in arizona. One white, one hispanic. They both jay walked. After stopping both of them, he asks one of the two for proof of their citizenship. One is hispanic, one is irish. Guess which one he asks...

be truthful now. You can do it.

You are one stupid fuck! We all are fully aware of that fact, so you can stop trying to prove it.

I know you have no desire to read SB1070 (I doubt you could even understand it if you did) and I know you cannot fathom the fact that what is written in the AZ bill is the exact language you would find in the Federal immigration law, but you won't read that either. Because neither one would support your delusions.

So let me get this straight:

It's okay for the White House to require that High School Students provide ID information (Social Security #s and citizen status) to the Secret Service on the pretext that this is necessary to protect the President, but it's somehow not copacetic for police officers in AZ to check the green cards of immigrants caught speeding?

The White House appears to be laying the groundwork for President Barack Obama to shake the hand of each senior at Kalamazoo Central High School’s commencement ceremony next month.

Seniors are being asked to provide their birthdates, Social Security numbers and citizen status to the Secret Service so background checks could be performed. Such a check is required for anyone who gets within an arm’s length of the president, students were told at their senior breakfast Friday.

Of the fact that the White House is requesting information on all the graduating seniors, K-Central Principal Von Washingon Jr. told the students, “I’ll let you figure out what that means,” said senior Simon Boehme, who was at the breakfast.

“Everyone is excited that we might have the opportunity to shake the president’s hand,” Boehme said....

Our federal government engages in more controls and security for shaking the President's hand than it does in protecting our borders. Unfrellingbelievable. But it does put their priorities in high relief.

God you love to make up shit.

I'm sure the SS has their hands full trying to make sure there isn't some yahoo like a Dylan Klebold in such audiences ready to make a name for themselves.

And please show me where Obama ever said any such thing.

I did read it and it is not the same exact wording as the federal one. Here is something to contemplate skippy.....There is a law here that prevents businesses from hiring illegals, yet over half the businesses here hire them...why not go after them and kill the incentive for the illegals to come here.

Jobs, build them and they will come....

remember, its hate, but its a dry hate.

yes...thats the way it works

That was pretty easy, huh?
