It was a fake movement. Conservatives needed cover for their racism so they made up all these phony excuses why they were doing what they were doing. Otherwise, as you note, the Tea Baggers would now be in the streets screaming. None of what they complained about is even discussed by them now. As long as 'their team' is in control they don't care how large the national debt is, or what happens with healthcare, or anything else.
