I would not consider the Old Testament too reliable since it was mostly oral tradition until around 200 AD when it started getting recorded.
But we do know that the Hebrew tribes could not have lived in Palestine, since Palestine had no drought that would have forced them to go to Egypt to escape the drought.
The Phoenicians, Philistines, Edomites, Canaanites, Amorites, Nabateans, etc., of the Land of Canaan, record no such drought.
The only drought anyone knows of around 1650 BC when the Hebrew went to Egypt, was in the Sinai.
And that is also reflected by the fact that the Hebrew tribes returned to the Sinai wilderness when they left Egypt, around 1250 BC.
If the Hebrew had come from Palestine originally, then they would have returned to Palestine instead of the wilderness of the Sinai.
