What's the point of religion when we have education now?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that religion is bad or dumb. I'm just saying we've outgrown it. We don't need stories about how the Sun moves across the sky because it's sitting in a chariot. We understand how the solar system works and know that it's actually the Earth revolving around the Sun. We don't need an illiterate Neolithic tribesman's best guess that the first people were made by Sky Father. We understand evolution now. We don't need these attempts to explain why the world is the way it is when we have the real answers to many of our questions.

Isn't it time for us to accept this and move on to bigger and better things now? Isn't it time for Jews to give up their Judaism and its attendant falsified history and ethnic supremacy? Isn't it time for Christians to give up their Christianity and its worship of an executed Jewish convict as the creator of the universe? Isn't it time for Muslims to give up their Islam and its calls for a global theocratic dictatorship? We don't need these things anymore. We can let go. Will you join the rest of the human family in letting go of the past and stepping out into the light of the bright future we can build together?
We do know a lot more about the universe than we did a few centuries ago, but we still cannot answer the basics:
1. HOW did we come about?
2. WHY are we here?
3. WHAT happens when we die?
These are still the BIG questions, that science cannot answer. Oh, sure, some pseudo scientists try, but they merely mask their own religious views in scientific sounding jargon.
All that has happened is a changing of the guard. One religion being replaced by another, through cultural & indoctrinating forces. Instead of christianity, which was the majority religion & world view for most of American history, we have secular humanism. THAT is the current religion, which has assumptions about the big questions of their own. Instead of believing in God or a Creator, they believe life is an accident of nature, with no purpose, & no meaning. They construct complex scenarios about our origins that they have no proof of, & do not even fit with scientific reality.

By the way, 'the rest of the human family' are far & away the smallest minority of beliefs on the planet. Most people have theistic religious beliefs, & do not buy the naturalistic view. Some are confused, because the propaganda campaign has been so successful in promoting the new religion, but reality has a way of bringing us down to earth.
We know how the earth came to exist. We just dont know exactly how life got started. Probably a mold turned into a bacteria bla bla and this life evolved into what we see today.

People want to know their purpose. What is a mountains or cats purpose?

What happens to a mosquitos soul when it dies?

"Blah blah blah" = you have no fucking idea, and lack the courage and honesty to even consider what that means.

It takes a lot of courage to admit to yourself the god theists talk about doesnt exist. After being told you'll go to hell if you dont believe.

Can you remember when you first realized Santa wasn't real? It wasn't a sad day for you. It actually felt good to finally know the truth. Maybe it was sad for your parents because it meant you were no longer young and innocent but it didn't mean you would stop being nice and start being naughty.

You keep saying "we", as if you speak for everyone.

You only speak for yourself. You are only one person.

Sorry, the post was intended for English speakers. Please let me know your native language, and I'lol see what I can fo.

By the way, sorry for the typo. "Either he is..", not 'he is is'...

Native language? Bavarian - bairisch (spoken: = b-irish). Most Bavarians are speaking German too.

1. No, we don't ' know' how the earth came to exist. That is speculation and varies from time to time, depending on the popular religion of the day.
2. Why has man agonized about 'purpose' for millennia?
3. Yes, that is the question. Why & what is life? That is what religion tries to answer, even the current, pop religion of secular humanist evolution.
Why does their 'best guess' carry more credibility for you?

What's the point of history or science now that we have education?

I think the absurdity of the question provides the answer. You don't disregard truth simply because you teach other truths.

And it should be obvious from the fact that being intelligent doesn't make a you a good person that the good fruit religion can produce can benefit the world

Every generation thinks they are at the pinnacle of wisdom and knowledge. They are always wrong. How arrogant of us to think we have arrived? How many of the 'truths' we take for granted now will be ridiculed as superstition by future generations?
Dogmatism has reigned in humanity forever. We are no different now. Our knowledge base is larger, but so are our superstitions. Very few have the circumspection or wisdom to see the difference.

Simply being blinded to the human condition out of ignorance, arrogance and insecurity requires no courage.
I say its arrogant and ignorant to think you are special in the universe. Little itty birth you.

You are unique in the universe.

Take a look around. You are taking in the universe, not the other way 'round. You are the center. If it makes you feel less guilty (due to a lamentable educational system), you can change that to 'a' center.

Because everything science believed is only believed after a theory goes through the scientific process. Evolution is believed for example because of facts and logic. Your belief is based on ignorance. You dont know so must be god.

Man has agonized over this because we hate not knowing. Long ago we said "must be god" to a lot of things we once thought were gods punishments and blessings. Some still believe that when a tornado hits its god punishing us for gays and abortion.

Only personal, intimate revelation proves God exists. By definition, this would not be transferable nor applicable to another. If you know God exists, who has to confirm it for you? Whom must you prove it to?

Well dont tell us we are a nation under god when you can't even prove it exists. How smart of a creature can we be if we are basing our beliefs on a story that can't even be verified? Perhaps we were lied to?

Do christians need an example of how they are being lied to and how believing in god is a way they keep us dumb and control us? Just look at what Muslims believe.

Then why do YOU do so?

You can argue that Islam does a lot of people a lot of good but a lie is still a lie no matter how good it makes you feel.

You ask a lot of questions. What do you think? Do you think we should just keep believing something just because we're afraid people can't handle the truth.

I know a lot of people who believe in god and I know it sucks peeing on their fantasies but they are getting to political and interjecting their beliefs on us so they brought it on themselves. If god is why they dont like gays or abortion then first prove god exists. And if the bibles why we defend Israel then fuck that fairytales

People who see the world for what it is dont fear death and the afterlife. We are greatful we were born and got this one shot at life. What was it like 14 billion years before you were born? That's what happens to your soul when you die. Goes away. Or do you think you will one day meet your great x 200000 grandparents?
