What ever happened to them?
I loved comedy teams and buddy movies when I was younger.

But since the age of Martin and Lewis........there really hasn't been any more.

What happened?

Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis

The Three Stooges

Bob Hope and Bing Crosby

The Smothers Brothers

The Marx Brothers

Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz

Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance

Comedy teams were a good format as they played off of each other.
They should bring it back

Because it would be flat out boring. Since the late 1970's, the American consumer of entertainment wants the individual performer. A sidekick looks like one of them is trying to hog the spotlight. And today's ego's would make it difficult.

I guess there's been a few since that did very well but even those are dated now.

Mel Gibson/Danny Glover in the Lethal Weapon movies.

Will Smith/Martin Lawrence in the Bad Boys movies.

Will Smith/Tommy Lee Jones in the MiB movies.

Jackie Chan/Chis Tucker in the Rush Hour movies.

These guys just did movies together, they weren't a comedy team.

It's as close as you get for the times.

Remember, most of the vintage comedy teams performed off camera and on stage....Some as far back as Vaudeville..

Even then some you mentioned like Crosby/Hope and Martin/Lewis were just buddy movies, same with Lucille Ball/Arnaz/Vance which were just made for TV.

It's just a thing that has passed unless the first movie grosses well and sequels are made.....Like say the Lethal Weapon movies and such.

There are actors who team up in movies but very few stand up comedy acts

Relics of a by-gone (and much better) era.....Enjoy them on TCM or YT as I doubt you will see the like again except for the occasional one-off.

My favorite duo is Mark Linn Baker (Larry) and Bronson Pinchot (Balki) from the Perfect Strangers show in the late 1980s.

There isnt enough character individuality anymore for that to happen. Everyone is subscribed and plugged into to some kind of mainstream corporate bullshit type of comedy. It's become all about corporate cultism.
