I donāt think itās a matter of not wanting to work. Many canāt work, because their symptoms are too severe. For those that are able to work, many will still need assistance (like social security), because they will only be able to handle a part time job. Then, there is the stress and stigma - and discrimination - that many deal with.A lot of these people don't want to work. Either their mental issues prevent it, or with the younger homeless, they know the system will give them the barest level of living without doing anything, and they accept that.
Tough, it is, to explain this to the typical lay person. What the severely mentally disabled want is acceptance within society. When they donāt get that, it makes living (including holding a job) practically impossible.
Like Iāve said, I have worked my butt off and overcome considerable odds, to get to where I am today. I want all, who want to, to have the same chances.
That is simply not happening in this country these days.
