Don't scapegoat Syrian refugees, religious leaders say

Two of the country's largest and most influential religious groups, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the National Association of Evangelicals, are urging the United States not to halt the resettlement of Syrian refugees after the deadly terrorist attack in Paris last Friday.

The Right is only religious when it is politically convenient.
And the Left are never religious? Or only when it's politically convenient?

BINGO!!!!!

Polyester Christians . Total fakes with their a le carte religious beliefs . " I'll take the gay hating , not not the help the poor and downtrodden part. "
It's easy to be brave when bashing gays, not so easy to be brave when it really, really counts. That's when you find out what these people are really made of.

And now we know.

We are supposed to be the home of the brave. It says it right there in our anthem.
There's a difference between Brave and Stupid

ISIS is a Muslim construct

One of the S's stands for Syria

To freely accept Syrian Muslims, without thoroughly vetting them, is Stupid

Is it that dangerous ? ONE out of the 12 Paris attackers MAY have been a refugee.

Seems to me that France and Belgium nationals are the bigger threat .
,,,,meanwhile ignoring the crime waves in France and Germany

Your point ?
we are talking about people fleeing war . Not Euros who are all mad cause they are jobless and stuck in ghettos .

Here in the us they see how great it is to be free and have porn available at your fingertips .

Of course they should be vetted .

I've been struggling with this, believe it or not. What should the Christian response be to the Syrian refugees?

Safety over Compassion?

Compassion over Safety?

Or safety and compassion?

So now America is a Christian nation?

Ok then, let's bring prayer back to schools and stop gay marriage and abortion.

The responses to the refugee crisis in Europe are both moral and political. A Christian is tasked with the obligation to love one's neighbor and be a good Samaritan. Turn the other cheek. Sell everything and give the money to the poor. But, Christianity is apolitical. At every turn in the Gospels, Jesus rejects worldly power. Government is beyond the purview of Christianity. Government is that practical institution which is the collective expression of the human survival instinct.

You know, out of the over 20 thousand refugees that applied, only around 12 thousand were taken in. Of those 12 thousand or so that were taken in, less than 15 have been found to have possible terrorist inclinations and were deported back to the ME.

None of those who came here as refugees have ever done a terrorist attack against this country thus far.

They don't come in here immediately, there is an 18 to 24 month vetting process that must be completed (with screenings from DHS and Human Services as well as others) before the refugees are even allowed to cross the border to this country.

I say we keep with what we've been doing, and continue to vet them as we currently do, because making more regulations and hoops to jump through requires more government workers and makes the process more expensive. I thought conservatives were against big government.

And by the way, nobody is "forcing" us to take in refugees, they are asking. We still have the choice to allow them or not.
None of the 911 attackers, that overstayed their VISAs, had never committed a terrorist attack against this country, either

How could we already be receiving refugees if there's a 18-24 month vetting process?

Now you can see the difference between leaders and pandering fearmongers.

The bishops and evangelical elders are leaders.

Those bishops and evangelicals are right winged extremists trying to subvert a secular government......or so I thought.

This thinking seems to change when it is convenient for Progs.

False comparison fallacy.

Most on 'the left' take no issue with affording the refugees asylum, consistent with their Christian faith.

For the most part this is a conundrum for conservatives, who are hostile to the refugees either as a consequence of their unwarranted fear or bigotry; or hostile to the refugees because they perceive it as an effective political weapon to use against the president and democrats – where both positions are inconsistent with conservatives' Christian faith.

We didn't just start letting refugees in, they've been coming here for a long time. Matter of fact, Reagan let in the most ME refugees ever during his term.

And yeah, I'm more worried about the visa program (like what the 9/11 attackers used) than I am about the refugee program.

Should the American government be turned into Christian outreach to the poor in the world?

Why do we need a "Christian response"? Christians responded to the federal order to bulldoze a half century old Korean War memorial with outrage and it was ignored. Nobody in the Hussein administration consulted Christians for their response to ISIS maniacs marching Christians to a slaughter site and cutting off their heads with butcher knives. Why should Christians be considered in a plan to admit 20,000 members of the muslem brotherhood to the United States?

Safety FIRST. But also appropriately limited compassion. In some cases, the options will not necessarily be mutually exclusive.

But it would be irresponsible for our "leaders" to prioritize assistance to outsiders (the humanitarian impulse) without first addressing their DUTY and responsibility (i.e., their primary reason for being in the position of leadership) to protect US from the threat of infiltration by a determined terrorist enemy.

The American Christian response to all crises in the world, whether it be the earthquake in Haiti or genocide in Africa is to send money and even adopt children. American Christians lead the world in charity.

But like I said before, politics is the practical expression of the human survival instinct.
