One of my favorite suggested sanctions from a mother of three who works for the federal government and will be affected by a shutdown: “Turn off their cameras.”

Members of Congress get loads of perks. They get lifetime health care, lunches, child care, gym memberships, and free parking at Reagan National and Dulles International airports.

They probably like those things. Get rid of all of them. And cut their unfiltered lifeline: C-SPAN should go dark. Take away the fuel for their ambitions, egos and grandstanding.

Let them see what a shutdown really feels like.

I don't think they should get paid until they quit with their little reindeer games, personally.

What does that mean? The government should be collecting taxes just to "go to" science and tech jobs? You want the taxpayer to subsidize private sector "science and tech" jobs?

That's part of the problem, they are being "educated" in public schools.

They have perks, which they voted in for themselves, that most of us will never see and if anyone thinks they really give a rats ass for the common citizen then they are deluding themselves.

Hell. The assholes put our SS in the General Fund, thanks LBJ, and they have raided it ever since. You won't find them raiding their seperate SS security though. Thats safe as houses.

Just let the House and the President negotiate. If the President doesn't like what the House does, she/he can veto it. If the House has teh votes, they can over-ride.

The Senate is useless and has been for quite a while.
