I think the true point behind this was "What constitutes as torture?". Using children as a comparison was just a way to show how ridiculous the rules of torture are... but apparently it was missed by many of the extreme right-wingers.

You seek the answer to a question that is not very difficult to explain. The politcal spectrum is thought to be on a contniuum from far left to middle of the road to far right but that is not a reality.
Those on the left and middle of that spectrum have historically believed that a government (those who pass laws) are wiser, kinder and have only the needs of the people at heart. While those on the right are thought to be greedy, capitalist money hoarders and who have no one's benefit at heart but their own and those who pay them off.
Those like your self on the middle to left spectrum believe that human nature is put aside and there is an amorphous human need to take care of the poor, the hungry and those that cannot take care of themselves. The left government representatives use these concepts to feel the pain (Clintonesque) of those who are defensless and in effect are really what they claim of the right wing. The left leaders use people like you to keep everyone poor and hungry (class vs class society) so that they can put crumbs (social give away programs) in the hands of their huddling class masses in exchange for their votes. In reality the left goverment representatives keeps the people on their plantations always working for them (raising taxes and spending), these elite who use pretense that the right wing leaders are out to take everything away from them and leave them with nothing. AN ILLUSION IS CREATED as they also control the mainstream media.
The right extreme are not saints but at least try to give everyone from the poor, middle and upper level of society the same opportunity to bring themselves up by their own bootstraps. The poor man or woman can work hard, save their surplus and invest it in such a way that they too can become comfortable and live a life worth living. The right side government and those who support them are demonized by the left wing major media outlets by omiting truth and slanting things to make the right appear to be greedy and evil.
This is the dynamic that is happening in our own country on a daily basis. The Carl Marx school of societal class vs class is being used for nefarious purpose today. Listen to what the politicians say in the news on TV and in every one of their political advertisements. You will hear that only the poor and middle CLASS are being taxed while the upper class is not being taxed enough. Yet when the right extreme gets to power, what happens? Taxes on everybody are reduced, more money is put into society so that men and women can use their own iniatives to build businesses or invest and better their lot in life. WHAT IS BAD FOR AMERICA (WAR, SOLDIERS DYING, POOR HEALTH CARE) ARE GOOD FOR THE LEFT SIDE TO GET BACK IN OFFICE. When good things happen like fighting back when our shores are attacked or people working and keeping more of their earnings and the stock market goes up is bad news to the left and middle wingers. So what will motivate the poor to work hard and get ahead so that they can be demonized by those who are the real enemies of the people of this United States.
This short explanation is simplistic but gives a bare bones outline of some of the differences you want explained for why you have been labeled a victim and a 'lacky yellow running dog of the proliteriat.' You have been and are being taken in by demagogues of the left. You are one of the masses who cannot think and are being fooled by a very old magical trick. What appears to be reality is in effect deception and you are falling for it.

As for the "extreme right-wing" comment. I only said that to make a point. All too often on this board I have noticed that liberals are very often referred to as extreme leftists, etc... Sometimes that just isn't the case. I myself do not consider myself an extreme leftist, socialist, etc... Just your basic liberal, I suppose, that can see some common ground with conservatives, but just not on every issue.
I take nothing personally and still like this board.

Are there certain issues that I can see common ground on with conservatives? Yes. Are most of my views more liberal than conservative? Yes. Does that make me an extreme leftist? No. Come on guys, I expected better from you.
All this article did was show the ridiculousness of the rules of torture that have been created. Using children as an example is a way to make everyone understand what the writer was getting at. Come on... the writer just dumbed it down for everyone.
As for my "true colors", I think everyone pretty much knew where I stood from the get go. But I have surprised a few of you when I agree with you guys on certain subjects, so please, keep that in mind.

That fact is true on this message board. But take a look at the mainstream media; ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, etc as well as NY Times, Boston Globe, LA Times, etc.
When the majority media speak of the Republican party you only see references to 'right wing extremists' while Democrats referred to as mainstream Americans or 'caring and moral majority.' Apparently no BIAS in this country....

As for the torture of combatants, I really don't care what happens to them. The world has been in the torture business for thousands of years. I don't understand why anyone is surprised that we torture for information. I don't have a problem with that. Let the military,CIA and FBI do thier jobs. They're good at it and they know what they're doing.
