When I think of the Tea Party, this poem comes to mind.

God of our fathers, known of old --
Lord of our far-flung battle line --
Beneath whose awful hand we hold
Dominion over palm and pine --
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget -- lest we forget!

The tumult and the shouting dies --
The Captains and the Kings depart --
Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget -- lest we forget!

Far-called our navies melt away --
On dune and headland sinks the fire --
Lo, all our pomp of yesterday
Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!
Judge of the Nations, spare us yet,
Lest we forget -- lest we forget!

If, drunk with sight of power, we loose
Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe --
Such boastings as the Gentiles use,
Or lesser breeds without the Law --
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget -- lest we forget!

For heathen heart that puts her trust
In reeking tube and iron shard --
All valiant dust that builds on dust,
And guarding calls not Thee to guard.
For frantic boast and foolish word,
Thy Mercy on Thy People, Lord!
Amen.

It's called "Recessional" by Rudyard Kipling. It's a poem written about the time period regarding English imperialism.

Rogo; if you are alluding to a religious component in the T-Party, you would be wrong about that. The T-Party's primary focus was bringing the govt back into conformance with the constitution, primarily for fiscal reasons, and that was and is the rub with Obamacare: "enough already; we can't afford this, and just leave us alone. In their long list of things to be desired, the very least supported as indicated by votes by the membership, were religious based demands.

If you are suggesting a paradigm of "empire lost," then that might be in the cards because of fiscal restraint and the illusion that Ron Paul created the T-Party, but that is only the consensus amongst Libertarians and Global Conspiratorialists, and they are only a small constituency of the TP; a fringe in about the same proportion as in the broader population.

This is how it started then it got taken over. Do you realize the tea baggers actually were fighting FOR the insurance companies!?? I have to give props to the people who changed them though. Its almost funny.

That's your interpretation: to the degree they seemed to be "fighting" FOR the insurance companies, it was because they are responsible people who, down through the years have honored their obligation to keep themselves and their dependents insured (health/medical etc) and they understand that the insurance companies are not the culprits that the left (Ds) make them out to be.

Because they are mostly the type of people who have been responsibly insured, they know first hand that people cannot be dropped because they get a medical condition UNLESS THEY STOP PAYING THEIR INSURANCE PREMIUMS. That can happen, but it's in the insurance contract they as long as they pay they are insured; that's key. Being responsible folks, the very last thing they would fail to pay would be their insurance premium. I was able, as a self employed person to keep my family insured for 34 years without a lapse in insurance, with several different insurance companies; I read and understood my contract (that is what it is you know) with the insurer.

As for pre-existing conditions, if people buy and keep health insurance from their earliest years, there is no problem of keeping their insurance. And those who didn't bother to get insurance until they needed it could still get it in the state insurance pools, and that insurance can be converted after a time if the condition goes away.

So they in the T-P see the government and politicians as demonizing the insurance companies which do a better job in keeping fraud and inefficiency out of their administration of insurance than the government does Medicare, and know when the insurance companies have been destroyed they will be at the mercy of government bureaucrats, leaving them with no place else to go.

The T-Party people are much better informed than the puppets the left controls; they are more savvy, and know and dislike demagoguery when they see it, so they were demonized by the left for meeting exaggerations and half truths with truth.

I only tell you all that, not to start another ridiculous debate about healthcare, but to clue you in on what was really behind the attitude of T-Party people regarding health insurance companies as a whole. I doubt that has changed.

The Tea Party, as it is intended to be, has a three point focus: 1. Fiscal restraint resulting in a balanced budget; 2. Government restraint with intention to eliminate all the unnecessary programs, budget expenditures, and regulation so that the people control much more of their own money and enjoy more options, choices, and opportunities as to what to do with it; 3. Constitutional integrity--restoring this amazing document to its roots and original intention.

True Tea Partiers don't get involved in the social controversies other than that federal funding that they deem appropriate to remove from the federal government and turn back to the states.

Tea Partiers don't get involved in religion other than in the sense that their right to express their religious beliefs is Constitutionally protected.

Individual tea party members or small groups will at times be involved in social or religious controversies, but it will be an activity extracurricular to the Tea Party movement.

It is as dishonest to point to those individuals or small groups as representatives of the Tea Party as it is to point to an Irish bank robber as representative of the Irish.
