I remember when Obama was caught on a open mike telling Putin that, after the election, he's be able to be a lot more flexible.

Turns out that Putin knew this even better then Obama did.

Putin knew that, as long as conservatives might have ANY say in American policy (by influencing a vote against Obama), Obama might still grow enough of a spine to do a Reaganesque face-off when Putin did something the U.S. didn't like. But after the election, Obama would no longer have to worry about what any conservatives thought, and would roll over as soon as Putin said "Boo".

And that's exactly how it has turned out.

Puting turns out to be a pretty good statesman, compared to the Keystone Kops we have falling all over themselves in DC. Too bad Putin is on the side of the once-and-future Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, instead of on the side of freedom.

And when it comes to U.S. - Russian relations, it's not clear WHAT side Obama, Reid, and Pelosi are on.

Obama gets it, much more than you guys who seem to think a bunch of Reagan type ultimatums and saber rattling is going to do anything other than needlessly escalate things. This is pretty much a European problem and all of their leaders have almost certainly called up and asked that Obama not try to act like George Bush in this matter.

So tell me. Do you think a bunch of tough talk and threats would have dissuaded Putin from his somewhat reckless course of action? I think he is enough of a megalomaniac to have invaded no matter who our president is. Conservatives love military ultimatums but in this case it would not have made one bit of difference and Obama would not get your support if he had acted just the way you think he should have, with red-faced bluster and infantile threats just so the conservative war-hawks can get a boner.
