"What Do You Want Me To Say About Slavery"? Bye Nikki

In 1860 slavery was legal in the US, therefore a state right. The democrats seized on it

Back up, regroup and try again
You can't claim the Confederacy was about State's Rights when one of the first things they did was prohibit States in their Confederacy from ending the practice of slavery. At least not without getting laughed and pointed at as you are here and nationally.

Every State that left the Union cited slavery as a reason in their statements on why they left.
An Ordinance

To repeal the ratification of the Constitution of the United States of America, by the State of Virginia, and to resume all the rights and powers granted under said Constitution.

The people of Virginia, in their ratification of the Constitution of the United States of America, adopted by them in Convention, on the twenty-fifth day of June in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-eight, having declared that the powers granted under the said Constitution, were derived from the people of the United States, and might be resumed whensoever the same should be perverted to their injury and oppression; and the Federal Government having perverted said powers, not only to the injury of the people of Virginia, but to the oppression of the Southern slaveholding States.

Now, therefore, we the people of Virginia, do declare and ordain,That the ordinance adopted by the people of this State in Convention, on the twenty-fifth day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight, whereby the Constitution of the United States of America was ratified; and all acts of the General Assembly of this State ratifying or adopting amendments to said Constitution, are hereby repealed and abrogated; that the Union between the State of Virginia and the other States under the Constitution aforesaid is hereby dissolved, and that the State of Virginia is in the full possession and exercise of all the rights of sovereignty, which belong and appertain to a free and independent State.

And they do further declare,That said Constitution of the United States of America is no longer binding on any of the Citizens of this State.

This ordinance shall take effect and be an act of this day when ratified by a majority of the votes of the people of this State, cast at a poll to be taken thereon, on the fourth Thursday in May next, in pursuance of a Schedule hereafter to be enacted

Done in Convention in the City of Richmond, on the seventeenth day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-one, and in the eighty-fifth year of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In Virginia it was just mentioned in passing, as Virginia was a slave-owning state, not as the reason.

I know. Isn't it great? It's the same problem they all have, and every debate moderator should hang it around their necks like a dead albatross.

Want to really confuse her? Ask her opinion on the Kansas-Nebraska Act.

I am not surprised that she fumbled the ball on this. She might as well been asked the firing order for a flathead Ford from 1938. Her only focus is how many wars can be ginned up during her imagined term of office.

Do you think that helps your cause? Any rational reading of that would note the oppression of southern slave holding states to be the cause for wanting to leave.

Nikki Haley on Wednesday was asked about the cause of the Civil War, and her reply went viral in the worst way.

Hey Nikki, repeat after me: It - Was - About - Slavery

Great question. It should be asked over and over again to all of the candidates, so the country can watch them cringe as they answer ir it wrong.
as usual, a biased article from a biased source.

I read the article; it points out what she didn't say. but no mention of what she did say.

any idea of what she DID say, or did you read it, and jump in with both feet?

what was "wrong" about the answer? Anyone who imagines that slavery was the only reason for the Civil War is wrong
Maybe the fact that Haley have a whole lot of reasons in that rambling answer except slavery. That reason was completely absent.

The fact that you don't seem to see a problem with that kind of tells you everything.

what "everything" does it tell me?----did she claim to have delivered EVERY reason for the
civil war in an OFF THE CUFF answer?

This won't hurt her with the average GOP voter, and she's still probably the best alternative to Trump.
