You can't tell me these kids even truly knew what it was all about, to begin with, other than the lines fed them by disgruntled adults. And let's say on the off chance they did, then all of them showing up at board meeting would have hqd just as much of an impact, and would have been the proper route to go. You are grossly underestimating high school students. I was fortunate enough to be a class where we were discussing the plight of people suffering from a famine in Africa during lunch break. We felt the need to do something about it and started raising relief funds without the intervention of the school staff.

Kids in high school are very aware of what is happening around them and it is more than possible in this day and age that one of them discovered what was happening and it went viral amongst the others. That they then came up with this action all on their own is perfectly believable.
