CDZ We only need one gun law

JOE is simply parroting lefty talking points in his post number 17 aren't you JoeB .

It boils down to one thing. We all want our kids to be safe.
But we must separate the wheat from the chaff. The agenda from facts. So much is noise to effect an emotional response rather than anything that would work.

On the nit picking side I'd like to clean up some private gun sale laws and generally simplify the regulations making it the same experience to buy a semi auto pistol, rifle or shotgun

No reason that government should have its filthy hands in that at all. The right to keep and bear arms necessarily includes the right to buy, sell, trade, or otherwise exchange arms; therefore, government has no legitimate authority to interfere with this.

Ideally yes Bob. Trouble is human nature or maybe I should say the nature of some humans. Ideally pure capitalism or pure socialism would work also. Just isn't that way though.

My fear is if the NRA group does nothing someday two bad things in a row will happen after George A Bush III kills the economy and the other party will plum outlaw guns. Will it work? After a few decades, but it isn't what I want.

So I say go for something reasonable. Your laws don't allow me to buy armed Apache helicopters or fully auto 50's so we already have the government's hand in there.

If you just dig your heels in someone is going to Conservatively read the 2nd Amendment and only let private citizens who are active in the National Guard own guns.

We already have thousands of gun laws, at the Federal, State, and local level. Murder, armed robbery, etc, are already illegal. We only need one more gun law...

Anyone found guilty of any violent crime with a gun...Gets hanged by the neck until dead.

The punishment doesn't fit the crime. Lynching is ok for someone convicted of murder, though.
So if someone shoots you in the head and you survive, what do you think should be their punishment?
Life in prison.

Here's the rundown of what we should do.

Commit any crime while in possession of a firearm even if that firearm is not drawn get an automatic 10 years no parole. Thus would make the act of illegally carrying a weapon one that gets you put away for 10 years.

Discharge a firearm while committing any crime even if no one is injured 20 years no parole.

Discharge a firearm during the commission of a crime and either injure or kill anyone life no parole.

It's very expensive to keep violent crime offenders in prison for all those years. Much cheaper to just hang them.

Consider the effect of guns in school on young children, will it make them afraid or will they think its cool & want a gun??

They already think guns are cool because of the gratuitous gunplay in Hollywood movies. Maybe they'll just become more educated about gun safety and responsibility.

And yet there are 400 million firearms in private hands and only about 10000 murders a year with them.

We banned millions off lawn darts only over a few deaths.

How can you be so sure about that? Would banning guns make crazy people sane, criminals into law abiding citizens?

No, but their ability to cause mayhem would be lessened.

Again, we already lock up 2 million people and have another 7 million on parole or probation, rendering them effectively unemployable and increasing the probability they will return to crime.

We don't have room for the real criminals we have now. If locking people up was the answer, we'd have the lowest crime rates in the industrialized world, not the highest.

But that's the problem. There shouldn't be a right to own guns.

There's no good reason for it.

The Second Amendment was about militias, not guns. But today we have professional armies and police departments, we don't need militias.
It's funny how wrong you are.

Painfully funny.

No, we just realized the Death Penalty didn't deter crime, was way to expensive to carry out, and ran the risk of murdering innocent people.

No, guy, the thing is, we shouldn't be using the standards of guys who pooped in chamber pots to determine what is the best course of action today.

In 1787, it might have made sense for every able bodied man to own a musket in case we needed to call up a militia to ward off an attack by native Americans who wanted their land back.

It makes no sense today for a guy like Holmes or Cruz or Lanza to have access to a military grade weapon and shoot up a place where a bunch of people are.

please explain how you would stop, lets say, an extremely RW government from rounding you up and putting you in work camps, w/o any way of defending yourself.

history shows, many times, what happens when the people can't defend themselves.

I wouldn't. I would hope they round up my neighbors and not me.

Which is pretty much exactly what happened in Nazi Germany. There were plenty of left-over privately owned guns from World War I, and the few gun control measures enacted by the Weimar government were repealled by the Nazis. But a funny thing happened.

When the SS came to pick up the Jews, not a one of those "Good Germans' came out with their guns and said, "Hey, you can't do that. Goldstein is a good guy!"

Not. A. Single. One.

And if Goldstein had a gun himself, he wasn't going to get into a shooting match with the SS. He was just going to hope that the stories about Buchenwald weren't as bad as they said they were.

So whenever some gun nut tells me he needs him some guns to fights the gummit, I just look at him funny. The government will always have more guns, better guns, and be better at using them.

sheep minded people think everyone is a sheep.

those people had no idea what was really going on, they didn't have history teaching them.

we do.

Or rape. If you rape someone, especially a child...you get lynched. No place for pedos but hanging from a tree limb.
