First time I’ve read Coasties being called that. Kinda on target.

Yes, they drive orange boats and fly orange choppers.

The Coast Guard has a new contract out to get the Water Dogs a new icebreaker fleet.

The Navy and Coast Guard have awarded a Mississippi shipbuilder a contract that could be worth as much as $1.9 billion to build a new fleet of icebreakers.

Their last icebreaker was built in 1976. Good for President Trump to be making efforts to bring the Coast Guard up to snuff.

Great to see this continue. Was worried with the 1.3 billion dollar cut to the Coast Guard in order to build a wall in the budget recommended by the President his first year that this wouldn't ever happen. Then that was followed up with the house diverting 750 million in icebreaker funds to the wall in his 2nd year.

And this year when many in the house were attempting to divert money from the icebreakers again for the wall, it was a great job by Lucille Roybal-Allard, Defasio, Capito and others to call that out and the need for icebreakers and get this through Congress rather than continue to strip our Coast Guard.

Too bad they can't sell the blow they confiscate on ebay. They'd have plenty of cash.
