The problem is you can't guarantee some idiots won't show up and quickly wade into whatever rally is already going on.

The Police have to take back control of these situations if people are to feel comfortable enough to show up without arming themselves, or bringing things like defense shields.

None, but even a novice can see the cops clearly didn't keep the two sides apart.

Obviously one can never guarantee anything, but you dont think this would reduce the difficulty of the police at all? OR minimize the bloodshed some?

I am OK with defensive objects like shields, but certainly clubs and molotovs should be confiscated and the posessor charged.

Crowd control was in effect, but was not effective. After action reviews will produce what went wrong and how. No weapons or defensive apparatus should be allowed within a perimeter where a permit has been issued, and each permit should be evaluated and rated, the more likely for an incident, the greater the cost of the permit.

Within the perimeter, which should exceed beyond the scope of the permit, loitering or acting suspiciously in the opinion of sworn LE, uniformed or not, shall be asked to submit to search and seizure, or if unwilling to do so, s/he shall be checked for weapons (pat down) and after providing required ID be told to leave the area, or be subject to arrest.

Anyone found to be in possession of a dangerous weapon, see:

2005 California Penal Code Sections 12020-12040 :: :: :: Article 2. :: Unlawful Carrying and Possession of Weapons

should be charged with a felony, and suffer the full penalty as warranted by the law.

BTW, the link has one mistake. No one charged and convicted of a single crime can be sentenced to county jail for more that 356 days. A sentence of 3 years is a commitment to the St. Prison.

Yes but that line between Liberal and Progressive gets more blurry every day. Both parties have their extreme elements, but the Left's lunatic fringe appears to be growing spurred on by propaganda that used to be "The News".

I have neither read nor seen any evidence of Police intervention. You had two highly contentious groups just square off. They may as well have rung a bell and have that fight announcer guy say "LETS GET READY TO RUMMMMMBBBBBBLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEE"

Yeah...except for that pesky Constitution.....carrying a weapon for self defense is a Right...as is freedom of speech.....and you can bet that left wing antifa will not be disarmed while anyone antifa opposes will find themselves helpless as the antifa thugs beat their brains in.....

    The poll is a joke..............

This is a State Issue and law enforcement issue.............The President should offer support to the State and local law enforcement agencies is needed. Condemn all violence and allow the States to handle their own affairs.

States have police, and a National Guard for this very purpose.
