Yeah it seems like NATO's all hup hup to start a war with Russia. I've tried to look into this a bit, but been busy - basically they're claiming Putin's moving in on them, but I hadn't heard anything about it so I'm not sure what's up over there. I'm of the mind to cut em loose, NATO I mean, I have a real good feeling without US backing they'll knock it the fuck out real quick. In fact, I bet without US tax payer funds protecting their asses, they'll have to pay for their own hired guns. Maybe I can help a little ----- the unit sent to Poland was from the army post here in town.

Obama spent the last 8 years selling out our European allies. Remember pulling the missile defense system out of Poland? Remember the failure to take action over Crimea? The list goes on and on ----

Frankly, those were small potatoes compared to the draw down of troops and assets throughout Eastern Europe. Now, it's necessary to beef them back up, because they went too far and left large portions of the continent virtually unprotected.

It's naive to think we should cut NATO loose. It is only the collective power of NATO that keeps Russia at bay - each country, individually, would be no match. Even collectively, but without our support, it wouldn't be much of a fight.

You're right - without us, the whole continent would collapse. They simply do not have the financial or physical resources to build up a military capable of defeating Russia. If we allowed it to collapse, they'd be speaking Russian in Lisbon within two years.

Psst ---- Crimea is not/was not a country. It did not have the right of self determination. The poll did NOT "vote to join another nation". The vote recommended that the Crimean state government petition the Ukranian government to be released so that they could join Russia or did they want to restore the Crimean Constitution. Of THOSE choices, Crimea chose to petition for release, and to join the Russian Federation, where they would maintain separate state status.

Instead, Russia "orchestrated" a reason to send in Russian troops (to protect Russian citizens) and took control of Crimea in its entirety.
