VA Middle School Students Assigned to Do Research for Obama Campaign

The notion that the middle schoolers are doing research "for" the Obama campaign is absurd on its face. There is approximately zero chance that they will uncover previously non-public useful information.

This sounds like a potentially worthwhile class project that Fox News and others have savagely attacked in their attempt to entertain and alarm their audience. Are teachers who try to design engaging curricula on politics and government expected to have to defend their choices from national media machines?

It appears from FOX sources the school board may get involved. Big news? No, only to those who despise Obama.

Fuck you. Its brain washing 101
Her Union must be proud.

Here is the real question, why not assign a group of students to do research about Obama? When I did similar exercises in school the class ended up assigned to all the candidates. That was before the feds took over education, so the rules might be different now.

However, if it is one sided, then it is not right. 50/50 seems fair to me, even if the side assigned is not the side the student would prefer. It's good mental exercise to have to argue for a position you disagree with. I had to do that many times in debates in school.

I'm all for balance, but I just don't think that it is practical or necessary in this context. When I was in elementary school we were required as a class assignment to write our Congressman (who happened to be a Republican). I doubt it occurred to our teacher to find us a Democrat that we could write to if we preferred. There wasn't any need. This kind of Fox News scrutiny wouldn't lead to more balance even if Fox News was itself balanced, it will just discourage teachers from effectively teaching about politics at all.

If a teacher wants to teach about politics, don't you think it would be a little more even-handed if the students did their 'investigation' about ALL the candidates?

And exactly how would you feel if the assignment was for every member of the class to 'investigate' Obama and all his connections to domestic terrorists and Marxists? I think we would hear you screaming from coast-to-coast.

Should we expect anything less? I mean really, is there anything this President wont do?

Yeah cause Obama walked into a Middle school and said," Im fresh out of ideas and have no staff. How about a little help?"

The assignment is fine. But the requirement to submit to the Obama campaign warrants at the very least a suspension ( without pay ) for the teacher if not a complete dismissal.

ETA: However the video says that a school spokesman said NO ONE was required to submit their ideas to the Obama campaign

You mean FoxNews lied?

Say it isn't so!!!!

The FEDS need to be booted OUT of education.

There is a slight difference between writing a congresscritter and doing opposition research on only one party.

The students were required to find out who they COULD send it to, there was no LIE.

Correct.

This is a non-issue. Another example of the right attempting to contrive a ‘controversy’ where none exists.

The controversy is that they were only assigned to do negative research on one party. What kind of course is that?

Clayton, you'd be spitting fire if the class was told to investigate Obama, take your bullshit someplace else!

Ouch! :clap2:

Fortunately they are from Virginia and even college grads would probably come up with gems such as:

"He's Morman."

Yabut, they'll probably be able to spell it.

This is actually a very good idea and works equally well no matter which side you're on.

When rw's were in college, er, uh, high school, uh, um, grade school -

Oh never mind, but most educated people are given the assignment to debate a point of view they do not themselves actually hold.

Its called education, which, as we hear every day, GObP/Repubs are against.

Are you actually trying to defend this?

Short answer? *Yes*

NO. Conservatives are against indoctrination that "gubmint good...Liberty and being an individual bad" as currently practiced. :eusa_hand:

IDIOT

I'd have to see the entire class syllabus before I can get butthurt over this. My guess is that the teacher told the students she'd be sending their derp to Obama in order to get them motivated about the assignment. She's trolling the students as well as Fox News lol

I knew the forum libturds would attempt to defend this reprehensible abuse of the taxpayers. What makes it even worse is how utterly pathetic and contrived your excuse is.

Yes. That's a point I never disputed, and immediately agreed with when Conservative made it earlier in this thread.

Naturally they have an excuse for everything as they continually evade the truth...

It's an exercise in brainwashing. Why didn't the teacher have them to opposition research on Obama? We all know the reason: because they might not think too highly of your messiah.
