I'm so glad Mattis is there and Trump is in office. War is never enjoyable, but the threat posed by China is far greater than most appreciate and it's best to nip it in the bud now and make it clear, "this won't end well for you". I'm glad to see America and their brave military once again have to lead the world in character and principle.

The expansion by China into the Southern Sea should be addressed daily with the UN and world military leaders should be huddling and deciding what to do.

Instead we get silence from these plastic "leaders".

US warship sails by contested island chain in South China Sea in message to Beijing, official says

A U.S. warship sailed Sunday near two contested Chinese man-made islands in the South China Sea, the location where Beijing has built up military fortifications despite a pledge not to do so, a U.S. defense official told Fox News.

The “guided-missile destroyer USS Decatur (DDG 73) conducted a freedom of navigation operation in the South China Sea to uphold the rights and freedoms of all states under international law. Decatur sailed within 12 nautical miles of Gaven and Johnson Reefs in the Spratly Islands,” the U.S. official, who declined to be identified, said in a statement.

It’s not immediately clear how Beijing will respond. Normally, American warships have been shadowed by Chinese spy ships during similar operations in the past in addition to fighter jets.

The latest military operation -- which the Pentagon calls “routine” freedom of navigation maneuvers -- comes days after a series of actions between global powers.

The U.S. military last sailed a warship within 12 nautical miles of a contested Chinese island in May, the internationally recognized territorial boundary. By sailing a warship inside that boundary, the U.S. rejects the claim, a view shared by most of the international community. The news of the action was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Situations like this are why we need space weapons. Rods from God style... At the first provocation turn these little bases into New Atlantis...

We have a Blue Water Navy..........part of that mission is power projection to maintain international sea lanes...........and this was message to the China to say we don't accept your claim on these waters............

Nothing new here.........been doing this for a very long time.

China wants to lay claim to all the oil in the region...........So they build bases out of the Ocean...........Other countries over there have repeatedly argued this is a clear violation of international law............and violation of territorial waters...............China doesn't care and is basically trying to claim the waters by FORCE..............countries like the Phillipines can't stand up to China...........China knows this.......so it falls to our Naval Power to send the message that we know what you are doing and refuse to accept your new boundaries...............

It is a dangerous game ...............and one that isn't new in these areas.

We have military bases in 70 countries but China shouldn`t be allowed to have military bases in the south CHINA sea?

They build Islands out of the sea..............in waters claimed by other countries and in what is considered international waters..............if it was a natural Island and not man built then who owns the turf owns the turf.............that is not the game afoot..........it's about building Islands out of nothing to lay claim to territory and is expansionist in nature.

It's an asian turf war ,apparently one the preceeds the UN's '74 doctine

And of course, the oilocracy just HAS to rear it's ugly head in it all.....

It really is quite ingenious...

Go, Mattis! Had the worthless floppy-eared pustule of a president Barry Choom-smoking Hussein not been a spineless dick and a sellout, we wouldn't be in the position now to have to do this.
