US Steel To Restart Illinois Plant Operations: Plans To Call Back 500 Employees....

Wow, a US President actually looking out for American Citizens?! That hasn't happened in awhile. WTG Trump!

United States Steel Corp. said it would restart a blast furnace in Illinois to handle the higher demand it expects from President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on foreign steel.

The steelmaker said it also plans to call 500 employees back to work at the Granite City mill. U.S. Steel idled its blast furnaces there two years ago as a flood of cheap imports pushed down domestic steel prices. Steel producers have been hurt in recent years by increasing competition from foreign competitors, particularly China, that have ramped up production at lower prices...

Woo--Hoo 500 jobs while killing the rest of the economy. Starting a trade war in the process.

Tariffs and taxes have never created a single job in this country, but they're great for job loss's. The offended country will always install their own tariffs on American products. Therefore skyrocketing prices to consumers. The Federal Reserve jumps in raises interest rates to combat inflation. Consumers tuck in on their spending & borrowing and then comes the job layoffs--(across every industry.)

What do you people think is going to happen to American exports? You know like General Motors, General Electric and every other corporation that exports products overseas, including lots of farmers?

Is 500 jobs that will dramatically slow down the economy worth it? Will there be any people left to buy steel after Trump is done?

The Great Depression Lesson About ‘Trade Wars’

Time for fair trade again. Time to help American Workers out for a change. When or if China, Europe, and others are willing to end their tariffs and restrictions, i'll be willing to talk again. Till then, it's time to revive our Steel Industry and other US industries that were decimated by the Globalists.

Those workers in steel using industries are Americans too. The consumers who will pay more are Americans too. You apparently want to screw those Americans.

Yes, Trump’s tariff is very much like the ACA mandate. Congratulations, lib.

When China, Europe, and others end their tariffs and restrictions, we can then talk. Till then, Trump is trying to help American Workers out. And they haven't had much help in many years. The Globalists have decimated them. So many quality American jobs have been lost. So i'm grateful we finally have a US President looking out for American Citizens again. Good on Trump.
Their tariffs harm them and help us. The EU has 200 million more people than us, but a lower GDP. That’s in large part because they have higher tariffs and subsidies. Wealth destroyers.

You rubes need to stop pointing to shitty countries and saying you want us to be like them. It won’t convince me to support your tariffs.

Nothing can match the awful decimation Globalists have wrought upon American Workers. It's time to help them out for a change. China, Europe and others have always implemented tariffs and restrictions. They've been doing it for many years. Time for free and fair trade. Go Trump!

And by 'free and fair trade' you mean America unilaterally imposing tariff's to protect favored American industries at the expense of other American industries- i.e. instead of Capitalism.

Hmm. Interesting twitter response to Trump from Elon Musk:

For example, an American car going to China pays 25% import duty, but a Chinese car coming to the US only pays 2.5%, a tenfold difference

Another one:

Also, no US auto company is allowed to own even 50% of their own factory in China, but there are five 100% China-owned EV auto companies in the US

Yepper, to the globalists, this is "fair trade".

Mark

The trouble is that China will be the least affected. This is not the way to get back at China.

500 making at least 50k so that's 25 million in local wages much less the purchasing power that gets distributed throughout the community
America becoming great again one good decision at a time

A little protectionism might just be a good thing. We need to maintain our ability to produce steel and Al. Also, cheep prices are only good for those that have good jobs.

I'll keep saying it until the sun burns out: America flourished and grew into an industrial powerhouse under an ardently protectionist trade policy from Lincoln through Harding, and largely protectionist trade policy from Harding through Eisenhower.

Too many conservatives have swallowed the globalists' free-trade arguments because those arguments seem conservative on their face. But when you look at them a bit more carefully, they are basically arguing to allow numerous countries to continue to enjoy grossly unfair trade advantages and to force our factories and businesses to compete against foreign factories and businesses that are heavily subsidized and/or that have much lower labor and regulatory costs.

If you want to continue to show your ignorance the do so. Amazing how your history stops before the tariffs of Herbert Hoover which turned a recession into a depression with 25% unemployment. Time to wake up and smell the coffee. This is the 21st century not the 19th.

The fact is that a number of our companies do compete overseas., Maybe we should look at what they are doing right. Japan had a centrally planned economy that everybody thought was going to take over the world and surpass the US. However bad decisions ended that.

Consumers should be making the decisions not the government.

Let's see 500 jobs gained but 180,000 risk losing their jobs because of these tariffs. Even with additional steelworkers employed, there will still be a 140,000 net loss in jobs.

I am not a great mathematician like all these pro-Trumpers are, but it seems to me that the American people are getting a raw deal with these tariffs.

However, in the Trumpian age of alternative facts, where up is down and round is square, losing more jobs than you gain by ill-thought out policies is considered a win.

How Many American Jobs Could Be Lost Thanks to Trump's Steel and Aluminum Tariffs
All bullshit. The Trade Partnership from which you "source" this spewage is a globalist leftist think tank that strives for a single world economy. Only communist pukes like these clowns could spin manufacturing our own steel into job loss when, in actually, will net huge gains in the US economy.

What you are smoking is something that is illegal. It will not net gains for the economy. Companies that make their product in the US and sell them overseas will find themselves at a competitive disadvantage. Their foreign competitors will figure out how much more the tariffs will add to their prices and undercut them. That means they will have to produce less of their product or move overseas. Larry Kudlow is a Republican and he says the same thing.
Sure. Good paying jobs and more taxes are bad for the economy. What a fucking moron.

There are many good paying jobs that are going begging because employers can't find workers. Why do you ignore that? We need to train people to fill these jobs. You want to go back to the 1970s. That's not going to happen. What will happen to those good paying jobs at Boeing and Caterpillar when they go overseas and are forced to compete against competitors who use less expensive steel and aluminum? When Bust tried it, it did not lead to more higher paying jobs. You are the FUCKING MORON!! If you only had a brain.

When you start a trade war, everyone gets fucked including Steel workers dumbass. The European Union is already talking about putting tariffs on American products, you know like American cars, that use steel to manufacture cars. When American car makers sales drop off because of steel tariffs, they don't need that much steel anymore--and steel plants will start to layoff steel workers--and of course auto manufacturing will lose jobs.

Your new car will cost more. New construction will slow down, prices will go up on consumers. This is a bullshit story. Unless they're talking about Temp workers to get the automated machines back online and then truck drivers for deliveries -- those plants use 2-14 workers per shift. It's now all mostly automated.

Trust me, they will not be employing 500 new people to do maintenance on the robots that make the steel. The robots maintain themselves, silly.

Any new folks hired, is good news. You shouldn't be so angry. You should be happy.

If the Globalists are upset, you know it's a great move by Trump. It's time to help American Workers out for a change. They've been completely thrown overboard by US Globalists. It's about time they got some help.
Just get your excuses ready when a year from now the economy has been hit with layoffs, unemployment and inflation. Fat lot of "help" it's gonna do us, is what the economists say.

That could happen if Democrats seize control.

That's an interesting observation. The Economy sure did tank when they seized control of Congress back when Bush was President. Of course Bush got most of the blame, but the tanking did happen when the Democrats seized Congress.

Tariffs are leftist policies. Trump is embracing them, so no need to wait for the Democrats.

Left or Right, it's what's necessary at this moment.

Gotta love you people who think anyone getting or keeping a job is terrible. What the fuck is wrong with you?

We’re not stupid, like you. The steel industry has 160,000 jobs. US Steel is adding 500 more. Big whoop!

US manufacturing companies using steel have 5,000,000 jobs. Trump is prepared to throw those 5,000,000 jobs under the bus to benefit the 160,000.

The figure I’m seeing consistently is that 5 jobs will be lost for every job that’s gained.

Realizing that you Russian bots are hired for you English skills not your math, let me clarify: Those 500 new steel jobs mean that 2,500 manufacturing jobs will be lost.

Does that sound like “winning” to you?

Trump is trying to revive the US Steel Industry. It'll take awhile to overcome the Globalist decimation though. It's refreshing having a US President actually looking out for American Citizens. We haven't had that in a long time.

Those millions of people who work in steel using industries are American citizens too in case you haven't noticed. Why should their jobs be threatened? Those consumers who will see prices go up are American citizens. Apparently you hate them., You are in-American as is Trump.
50 dollars more for a major appliance is not going to bankrupt anyone. Do you want a strong middle class or do you prefer bringing up the bottom at their expense?

How nice of you to make the decision for all Americans. When you start getting hit from all sides with price increases on products made with steel and aluminum it adds up. When Boeing and Caterpillar lose sales from that expensive steel and aluminum that their competition doesn't have, they will either shed workers or move overseas.

I do object. It will not make a strong middle class. You are the one who wants to be at the bottom.

This is where the government claws back that $2000 tax cut you were gifted with. It’s only $175.00 on a car, a Pennie or two on every can you buy, $50.00 on every new appliance.

And while lots of jobs were created, wages did not go up.

The Globalist Trade War against American Workers has been ongoing for decades. It's about time someone stood up for them. China, Europe, and others have been imposing tariffs and restrictions on US goods for many years. It's time for fair trade again.

Let's think about this a little farther than the tip of your nose. Let's say an American corporation like (Apple) produced another I-phone that everyone has just got to have. Every American in this country buys one. Is Apple supposed to close it's doors after every American has one?

Or do they sell this new product overseas so they can keep their doors open? To compete overseas on (price) a lot of U.S. corporations manufacture overseas due to lower costs. After all China employers are not paying payroll taxes that consists of social security/medicare, they're not paying unemployment insurance or workman's compensation insurance and health insurance. Making it much more affordable for manufacturing to go overseas--which also keep U.S. products AFFORDABLE to people who live in foreign countries. If all manufacturing was done here, someone in India or China would not be able to afford this new I-phone. Now the benefit TO YOU of manufacturing American products overseas--is you can buy this new I-phone for a much better price than if everything was manufactured here. Imagine what you would be paying for new computers, cell phones, T.V's and all other electronics if everything was manufactured in this country? This includes every industry in this country including clothing, etc.

TRADE DEFICITS are nothing more than paper deficits. Smaller populated countries like Mexico & Canada are not going to buy two General Electric washing machines per family, or 5 American cars. We have a larger populated country & will buy more--simply because of our population, which creates this thing called a trade deficit. The ONLY country we should have a trade surplus with is China--because they are a larger population. Therefore, every trade that the U.S. does is a SURPLUS trade. There is no such thing as a trade deficit--only to people who seriously do not understand the economy.

Tariffs & Taxes have created a single job in this country, but they are great for job loss's. The offended countries of tariffs will ALWAYS tariff American products in return. Skyrocketing prices to the consumer (YOU.) When consumers have less money to spend they won't buy new cars, they won't buy homes, they won't go to the mall and pick up things they don't need. They will only buy the necessities. When they tuck in on their spending employers aren't making money and the first ones to go are ALWAYS employees.

This is the global economy---class 101.

So while Trump created 500 new steel jobs. Peter Pan, Skippy Peanut butter, Minute Maid orange juice & other manufacturers of Orange juice in this country along with Ocean Spray cranberries got kicked in the testicles by the European's tariff on these American products--in retaliation of Trump's steel tariff. So how many employees do you think these industries will be laying off?

When prices go up consumers, consumers tuck in and don't spend as much and then we're back into another recession, and everyone is losing their jobs in all industries. Tariffs & taxes have never created a single job in this country, but they're great for job loss's. We have a long--long history of knowing that.

Which is why everyone is against this, except the Ass Clown that is sitting in the Oval office. And he's only doing it, because he campaigned on it, and wants to throw a bone to steel workers while shoving a big stick up every other working American's dark spot.

The Great Depression Lesson About ‘Trade Wars’

The Globalist Trade War against American Workers has been ongoing for decades. It's about time someone stood up for them. China, Europe, and others have been imposing tariffs and restrictions on US goods for many years. It's time for fair trade again.

And by 'Globalist Trade Wars' you are of course referring to Capitalism.

Yep--Capitalism is what makes the world go round.

"Pleased that President Trump has heard my call & the call of our steelworkers to bring jobs back (500 in Granite City). This addresses the global glut in steel and other unfair foreign trade practices that have cost our economy jobs and imperiled our national security." - Wacky Mike Bost

"That’s right @RepBost! Thank you for your support in helping put America back to work. It’s about JOBS, JOBS, JOBS for our incredible workers and putting AMERICA FIRST!" - President Trump

You should probably send a THANK YOU letter to Peter Pan, Skippy peanut butter, all of the orange juice manufacturers in this country along Ocean Spray cranberries--because it is they--that will be getting kicked in the testicles over your 500 steel jobs---:auiqs.jpg: You definitely don't want to be holding any futures in orange juice right now. How many jobs that's going to cost we don't know yet.

What about those people who were going to be hired but won't be because Electrolux postponed their plans to expand their operation. What about US consumers who are going to pay higher prices.

You have elected an ECONOMIC MORON!

The European Union has already responded to this tariff.

The Great Depression Lesson About ‘Trade Wars’

The Globalist Trade War against American Workers has been ongoing for decades. It's about time someone stood up for them. China, Europe, and others have been imposing tariffs and restrictions on US goods for many years. It's time for fair trade again.

To hell with the Globalists. They've decimated quality American Jobs. It's time to end the Globalist War on American Workers.

Very petty thinking. Any new folks hired is good news.
