Thus in our view, U.S. government pressure for BP to cut its dividend is completely absurd. The huge company will most likely be able to manage any clean up costs, and could even cut its dividend in the future if otherwise. The U.S. is increasingly behaving like a banana republic in the way it treats companies, resorting to rhetoric over logic.

GRILLED BANANAS WITH COCONUT-CARAMEL SAUCE
Recipe adapted from "Steven Raichlen's Planet Barbecue!"
Makes 4 servings.
1/2 cup palm sugar or light brown sugar
1 cup unsweetened coconut milk
8 apple bananas or 4 conventional bananas
Flat bamboo skewers
To make sauce: In heavy saucepan, combine sugar and coconut milk. Bring to a boil over medium heat, whisking to dissolve sugar. Simmer briskly, whisking often, for 5 minutes or until thick, golden and very flavorful. Remove pan from heat. Cool to room temperature. Place it in deep bowl. (Note: Sauce can be prepared up to 1 day ahead and covered and refrigerated. Let sauce return to room temperature before using.)
To grill bananas: Heat grill to high. Brush and oil grill grate. Peel bananas. Place skewer through end of each banana. Grill bananas for 1 to 2 minutes per side or until lightly browned and partially cooked. Dip bananas in coconut-caramel sauce (or brush sauce onto on all sides). Return bananas to grill. Grill for 1 to 3 minutes or until bananas are darkly browned and sizzling. (Note: A bamboo skewer should easily pierce banana.)
To serve: Transfer to platter or bowl. Spoon remaining sauce on top. Serve at once.

This is excellent with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

How is that behaving like a Banana Republic? Seems someone needs a history refresher. Banana Republics took orders from the companies, NOT the other way around.
