Uprising in Egypt Splitting the Conservatives in the US

Our support for Mubarak for all of these years was our way of telling the world that lack of freedom is OK if we, the US, get something in return for such lack of freedom.

It told the world that we are hypocrites.

Store food and prepare for the coming global insurrection: That's the warning Glenn Beck issued Monday. The Muslim Brotherhood and American radicals, he informed us, are operating in tandem to bring about "the destruction of the Western world." On his Fox show, Beck presented a clip of Mohamed ElBaradei calling for a "New Egypt that is democratic, that is based on social justice." The phrase "social justice" flashed on the screen, because in Beck's world, it's a code word for a totalitarian leftist agenda, just as the Egyptian protesters' use of the phrase "day of rage" signals their kinship with Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground. "We've shown you tonight that Hamas, Code Pink"—the feminist anti-war group—"and the Muslim Brotherhood are all linked together." With the future bleak, Beck called on his viewers to pray for "our way of life" and for Israel.

Over the top is Becks schtick. I doubt most people think the world economy will topple over Egypt.

however

If the Muslim Brotherhood does gain power, the shit will hit the fan. Fuel and food will go up b/c they will control the Suez.

I just watched Shepard Smith's coverage of Egypt. Things are deterioating into anarchy. pro Murbark people against anti Mubarak people and the army has entered the square. Molotov coctails are flying and hundreds have been injured.

I'm so proud of you EZ.. blaming conservatives for the conundrum in Egypt.. You root for them though.. cause

Cairo, Egypt (CNN) -- It started with verbal abuse, and then -- perhaps inevitably -- it got physically, terrifyingly violent.

Supporters of Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak flooded into Cairo's Tahrir Square Wednesday after the president's opponents dominated the scene for more than a week.

Separated at first by barriers, the rival demonstrators exchanged insults, then began throwing anything they could find at each other, including shoes, rocks and sticks.

Suddenly the barriers came down. People surged toward each other in a chaotic scene that conjured images of a revolution.
Digging up bricks to use as weapons
Protesters hurt in Tahrir Square
Shots fired, vehicles overturned

Some injured protesters fell. Others stumbled through the crowd. Blood streamed down the faces of the wounded. A few women away from the front line gave the injured water and swabbed at their wounds.

If that is what you got from her post then your reading comprehension sucks.

"Mohamed Ghanem, one of the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, calls Egypt to stop pumping gas to Israel and prepare the Egyptian army for a war with it’s eastern neighbor."

Sounds like they're saying exactly that. But hey, maybe my comprehension sucks too.

American & European Leftists do tend to sympathize with and support Radical Muslims. It is what it is. David Horowitz's book 'Unholy Alliance' lays out the reasons for this quite thoroughly. Most of the Left's sympathy and support for Radical Islam seems to stem from their irrational hatred of Christians & Jews. They see supporting the Muslims as a way of hurting both Christianity and Judaism. It's a very warped mentality. I don't think Beck was so off the mark on this one.

You either believe democracy is the best form of government or you dont.

I believe it is the best form of government,

I am amazed at how many on the right only think its good for us and then its only good when THEY get what they want.

It depends truth, Are you referring to pure Democracy or a Republic?

As others have said Pure Democracy is nothing more than mob Rule. if 51 out of a hundred people want to kill the other 49 they will. That clearly is not the best form of Government, and truthfully has rarely been tried in Reality.

A republic, with checks on the tyranny of the Majority like we have, is the best. IMO

Strange thing is, every single Tea Party supporter I personally know were ardent Bush supporters. And I believe would elect him again if they could.

Well you must not have met many of them. I supported the Tea Party, and I was not a "Ardent" supporter of Bush, and Would not vote for him again.

But don't let that fact get in the way of your own version of Reality.

In reality, the Radical Islamists have now been unleashed in both Egypt & Tunisia. Anyone who doesn't see this is just living in denile.

just tossing shit against the wall now huh

He is not completely wrong. You better believe the Radical Islamic Groups like the Muslim Brotherhood (who's motto is prepare for war with Israel) are active in both places. Fanning the flames.

Actually I think the message was a tad more Practical than that.

The Message was the Middle east is strategically important and we will support thugs in order to keep the peace in the region.

Not much better but far more accurate.

The only time I see RED is when I see another Beck-a-Thon where he attempts to skew some bizarro point into a diabolical Socialist plot. This is the extent of the man's mental conception.

Ahh so someone else is noticing the right's quandry. Democracy and freedom vs fear and hatred of the Islamic religion.

I thought this was empahsized very well before and after the Palestinian elections.

I remember (in another place not to be named) how everyone was happy and posting pictures of Iraqi women with purple thumbs after voting....hurray for Democracy....and yet not so happy and mods taking pictures down of Palestinian women with purple thumbs voting for Hamas. A distinct quandary.

Fascinating, isn't it? Not only are certain people incapable of recalling events that shaped the region 10-20 years ago, but now they can't even remember events of the last 8 years!!

Fear and hatred of Islam.. Wonder where that came from???? We dreamed it all up right lefties,, Islam has never done a damn thing to anyone in the whole wide world has it?? NOooo.. not them.. they are as innocent as the driven snow.. right lefties??? It's on to Blame America first and don't forget to blame evil conservatives who sit around and dream all this terrorism up.. It never happened right lefties,, and if it did happen no muslim was ever involved in it right lefties???? Yay team.

Willow ~~ Egypt is a MUSLIM COUNTRY. Always was, and always will be. Got it? Even when Mubarak (a MUSLIM) is gone, another MUSLIM will take over as leader. Get that. And that doesn't mean Mubarak was a MUSLIM TERRORIST, and it also doesn't mean that a new leader will be a MUSLIM TERRORIST either. Get that too.

Funny last time I checked Egypt is one of the oldest civilizations on Earth. Around for 5000 years, and has only been Muslim for about 1400 of them, and only Fanatically so for about half that. In fact as Muslim Nations go, Egypt is Rather Secular.

Go read up on the history of Jimmy Carter and Iran.... your old enough to remember that.

Other than the Iran hostage crisis, that would be what? Jimmy Carter's administration wasn't responsible for that. It was a result of the long-standing US support of the Shah, long before Carter took office. He just happened to be President at the time.

I still find that piece of history unfinished business, as the botched rescue resulted from "accidents" involving some of the helicopters which resulted in poor communication in carrying out the rescue. It was a military plan that Carter approved, but to listen to his critics, Carter wrote the blueprint for the mission himself. Oddly, the remaining hostages were released on the day President Reagan was inaugurated. I smelled a trout in that milk immediately.

It's not like Beck dreamed any of the threats up or anything iszzz it?? he dreamed it all up right lefties????

Why don't you try reading the articles you're commenting on sometime Willow?
Now, as Egyptians pour into the streets and demand control of their political destiny, an interesting divide is opening up on the right. On one side are those who actually took all that democracy stuff seriously. On the other are those who see the Muslim world only as an enemy to be crushed and controlled. With a Republican primary approaching, it remains to be seen which view of Middle Eastern policy will triumph among conservatives.

I did, she's just as full of shit as you are. she can't prove any of the bullshit she's spewing.

And neither can Glenn Beck.

The Mullah Nazis in Iran have been proven to be far worse for the World than the Shah ever could be. They ushered in the Dark Age of radical Muslim Terrorism all over the World. Maybe Carter should have manned up and helped the Shah out? Instead he cowered under his desk and did nothing. And the rest is History i guess. The Shah was a pussycat compared to the Mullah Nazis who took his place. Carter was a wuss. End of story.
