Unions: The New 'Dinosaurs'?

Ever hear of the Iphone. What Apple does, it's competitors follow. When it raises or lowers prices, the industry follows. That is basic monopoly power.

got it,

1) so Walmart has to fight every day to keep its prices the lowest in in the world so it won't end up like Kmart because it has monopoly power

2) so Apple has bring out a new Iphone every year so it won't end up like Nokia because it has monopoly power

3) so Intel races against the clock to keep up with Moores Law as fast as its world wide scientific base will allow because it has monopoly power?? "The whole point of integrated circuits is to absorb the functions of what previously were discrete electronic components, to incorporate them in a single new chip, and then to give them back for free, or at least for a lot less money than what they cost as individual parts.

In fact, when you get an MBA they teach you that the history of business showed that success led to destruction, not to monoopoly power. They go through every industry showing for example, that GE and RCA laughed at the computer while IBM was taking over their industry, then IBM lost to Microsoft, then Microsoft lost to Google.
Nokia and Motorola lost to Apple and Samsung, etc etc.

the absolute and pure stupidity of a socialist saying that capitalism leads to monopoly power is staggering when socialism openly creates monopolies!!

Funny, Ed. Like you would know what they teach you in an MBA program.

So, Rabbi says:
Yes, Edward is right. You are an economic illiterate.
Edward is never right. More schooling for you coming up. Why am I not surprised that you had to have the other half of your IQ answer for you. So, first you need to try to understand what you asked me. It was:
Remind me which businesses have monopoly power in this country.
So, you are answering as though you asked me what pure monopolies there are in the countries. Which you did not. Clumsy lie, and easy to catch. So, again, lets remember what monopoly power is. Apparently this is a difficult concept for you, so write it down this time:
Monopoly power

So, I hope you actually got it this time. I would be so pleased that some of this knowledge is rubbing of on you.
Monopoly power

Really. Again I noticed no source for your statement, which I know to be wrong. I know Boeing well. But here is a quote and a link that proves your statement wrong.
"Boeing reported 962 gross orders placed so far in 2012, more than double Airbus' 437."
Boeing Is Killing Airbus In Sales In 2012 - Business Insider

That statement is too stupid to bother with. Really, really stupid.

Yes, well, suffers may be a bit of a stretch. But companies that are not pure monopolies, but have monopoly power, ALWAYS have competition. By definition, of course.

Well, this may be even more insane than the Intel statement. Microsoft is fighting for it's life with no one. You are showing total ignorance.

Apple competes against every other maker of electronics and Verizon is pitted against other cell phone operators.
And is listed as a monopolistic company (as in a company with monopolistic power, so that you do not get too excited) by pretty much every economist talking about the subject. Ever hear of the Iphone. What Apple does, it's competitors follow. When it raises or lowers prices, the industry follows. That is basic monopoly power.

Wow. You lose. Yet one more time. What a fucking tool. Have you used your MBA for toilet paper yet? Because that's all it's worth.
Actually the mba worked well for me for a lot of years. You would not know, because you are a moron.
So, you have been educated again. But the thing about education is that it tends not to take with con tools like you. So I suspect you will have learned nothing.

So, Rabbi, in an attempt to make it look like I did not respond correctly to his question, makes the following statement to the above response.

I show that not a single example you've given is a monopoly as they all compete against other players and you simply dismiss it. No proof. GIves a lie to every stament you've made. You never offer proof.
Now, the problem is, the Rabbi did not ask for a list of monopolies, but rather for a list of companies with monopoly power. Here is his request, taken from the beginning of this post.

Remind me which businesses have monopoly power in this country.
So, I gave him a list of companies with monopoly power. And as cons do, he then said that I did not give him a single example of a monopoly.

So, just more of the same. Just a con tool, in this case Rabbi, making a pathetic attempt to dishonestly make another's honest post look dishonest.

The 8 hour day.

so you are pretending to yourself that all good things that have happened to union workers have spread to all workers? So have all bad things that have happened to union workers spread to all workers?? Are you saying without unions we'd all be working 20 hours a day for 1 cent and hour??
All you need to do to find out is study the history of labor vs management in America and the union movement, which at this point you are plainly ignorant about. But I know you won't do that because having a system of erroneous ideas uprooted is like having a tooth pulled.

I don't know about 20 hour days, but I do know about pitifully low wages and 12 and 14 hour days because they were common before the union movement, and there was no such thing as overtime pay. Nor were there paid holidays, or paid vacations, or sick leave days, or coffee breaks, or defense against abusive bosses, or assured safety in the working environment, or many other benefits and advantages right-wing Libertarian toadies take for granted today and are simply too shamefully ignorant to know why they exist.

[First, you are talking to a con. Con's do not read books. They spend their time with bat shit crazy con web sites and simply post the dogma from those sources. Makes them angry. And they like being angry. Reading a book would make them less angry. So they do not do so.

[...]
Of course you're right.

I know that trying to educate some of these brainwashed right-wing toadies is futile and I wouldn't waste my time were it not for the fact that many others aside from these cyphers quietly peruse this forum and are interested in learning both sides of an issue. The nitwits provide an opportunity to reach those others. They are a convenient drum to pound on and they are only too happy to cut their own throats with the sharp edge of their obvious ignorance and, in some cases, their arrogant stupidity.

Yes, indeed. It is funny in a way, but sad in others, to watch them make really ignorant attempts at proving a point, and then doing high fives as the rest of the world sees that they are fools. But they do so all the time. And yes, it is really only for the OTHERS, not for these clowns. They have a belief system based on what they want to believe. And that is it. No need for information, because they believe what they want to believe.
The other cons tools, however, are more interesting. The tools who are there all the time, posting dogma all day long every day. Those are, in most cases, the paid con tools. Those who get bucks from CATO or Heritage, or AEI, or one of the many other right wing propaganda organizations. They are the usual NON Feedback Organisms that are totally uninterested in or incapable of conversation.

If they had monopoly power they could price their goods at whatever they want. Since they dont, and experience pricing pressure, they are not monopolies and do not have monopoly power.
Another grand fail from the "Master of Bullshit Assertions"--the only "MBA" you possess, dickweed.

yes the insane liberal would have us believe Walmart's monopoly power is evidenced by its fight to keep prices low for the American people!!

Maybe what we need is a liberal economy wherein business is encouraged to keep prices high!! And wherein Apple and Boeing don't have to constantly invent new products ahead of international competition!! It would be great for American workers!! They'd have no jobs at all!!!

"Monopolies" are the red under the bed for the Left. They see them everywhere and talk about them constantly. But even in the bad old days of Standard Oil etc the companies that could be reasonably considered monopolies never behaved like it. They typically kept prices low. Why? Because they were afraid of a competition that did not then exist but would spring up if they raised prices above market. So really in a capitalist system there are no monopolies. Monopolies are always the result of gov't intervention.

yes, if fact it is even taught in basic Micro-economics 101 courses at liberal universities like Harvard, and in MBA programs too. Nothing would encourage competition faster than a complacent or abusive monopoly, and nothing would create monopolies faster than a liberal socialist government!! Isn't that a great irony!!

Liberals are less than pathetic in their thinking. They are not smart enough to feel humiliated or stupid! Thye are the same drones who followed Hitler Stalin and Mao without regard to whether it made any sense or not.

In the Left's universe companies do not need to worry about employees, consumers, or competition.

They are the same drones who followed Hitler Stalin and Mao without regard to whether it made any sense or not. This is normal human behavior so we cant be too frustrated by it. Maybe the miracle will turn out to be that freedom and capitalism ever existed at all. Barry could herald the begining of a new dark ages.

Who could believe we are here in 2012 arguing with communists like the ones who spied for Stalin?

No, again you are lying. Not just wrong, but lying. Because no one could be that stupid. I have explained multiple times, to the point that normal people understand. Sorry you are a tool, dipshit. You are simply wasting everyones time with your bs. Suggesting that corporations with monopolistic power have NO competitors is just simply too stupid to discus further. You lost this argument long ago, but will never admit it.

And sorry to see that you are so jealous over my MBA. It is not the least impressive to me. You must have a very sad little life. Since you are so sure, lets make book on this. So, you put up $10K and so will I. Winner gets all. The judge only has to make judgement on whether my diploma is Genuine. If my Diploma is genuine, I win all. If it is not genuine, you win all. Money goes into trust at a neutral Bank of America, somewhere between your home and mine. And the judge is an official of the B of A with the trust. At branch manager title, or other title that we mutually agree on. Only change is that if you would like to double the amount that would be acceptable.
So, since you are so sure I do not have an MBA, how can you loose. Your only question should be whether the bet should be $10K or $20K. Come on, Rabbi, take me up on it.

That's all you can do? Tell me I am lying? How is it lying when there are no monopolies, other than the gov't kind, and the companies you cite all experience competition and are all constrained on raising prices?
In your lingo monopoly means "really big fucking corporation." Yes, in that sense there are monopolies. But in the way that people with, say, an MBA understand it "monopoly" has a very specific meaning. One you've failed to grasp.
Master of Bullshit Assertion--the closest MBA you'll ever get.

So, you seem to have avoided the opportunity that I am providing you. Cmon, Rabbi. You said you are sure I have no MBA. Look at my last post again, though I am sure you remember it. No guts, Rabbi. i bring my sheep skin, and you get a bunch of money if you are correct. You seem to have amnesia on that part of my post. Why would that be.
Why, for the same reason as all of your drivel. Because you are all con tool mouth.

corporations with monopolistic power .

so then why be so afraid to present your single best examnple of a corporation with monopolistic power so we can all have another good laugh???

I've asked 8 times now. What does your inability to answer tell us about the liberal's IQ and character??

what it boils down to is that progressives like Rshermr dont like other people making more money then them...Its jealousy and ignorance.....They honestly believe when someone told them they were special and deserved nothing BUT best.

"Its jealousy and ignorance"...... true enough which explains why he cant answer simple questions even after being asked many many times!! jealousy and ignorance leave one ill equipped for democratic debate.
