U.S. SUVs are sixth worse source of carbon emissions

Nice. They are sure footed, comfy (though seats a bit stiff, good electronics, easy to maintain, get about 23 mpg at 65 on open road, small and easy to get around in, with suspension to get to the back country, carrying anything you need. What more do you want?
I've been mulling-over getting shed of my F-150 4X4 for a smaller PU so what I might do is install a hitch so I can tow my utility trailer if I need to haul something, say to the dump or some such and just use a receiver rack incase I kill a ol deer.

I had been doing that since about 2014 anyway. It's a lot easier to handle them by yourself that way. Here's one on my old PU.

Hopefully it will be a non-issue but I really don't think she can pass the test due to her failing eyesight and increased incidents of vertigo.....She will be 90 this coming May (Virginia requires the test at 90) so we will see.

The 220 million gas-powered SUVs on U.S. roads equal the total combined carbon emissions of Britain and Germany and constitute the sixth highest air pollution source globally. Purchases of SUVs in the United States soared from 2o percent of all vehicles in 2012 to 46 percent in 2022, according to the International Energy Agency, as reported in the March 5 issue of the San Francisco Chronicle.

But you won’t find anyone in the Biden administration urging people to pick more fuel-efficient sedans over SUVs, or encouraging people to buy smaller vehicles, or urging people to drive less. All they talk about is electric car infrastructure, even though internal combustion engines will be with us for many years to come.

Ahem, that's NOT a K98 8mm. I'd guess 60s Marlin 30-30 :dunno:

Know that I am just some cracker.

Number 1. Be careful of Mom, for all the years she was careful you. If you and the family think she probably doesn't need to drive, she probably doesn't. Wish mine was still around.
If you end up with the car, it will serve well. I have one, a few model years older. But, if that is the only pickup you have, don't get rid of it. I have had a pickup since 1974, except when I bought the jeep. It is also the Limited, and came with the towing package. It is perfect for travel (short or long), grocery getter, carried my canoes and kayak and camping gear into rough back country. That said, if it dies it will be replaced by another small pickup. There are just times when a pickup is required, and you will miss it. Mind you, no pickup will go where the jeep will or have that natural balance, so you don't need to throw weight in the back during times of snow, and you get more snow there, than I do in West TN, and yes, I have strapped a lot of lumber on the rack on top and hauled a lot of bags of concrete, and mulch in the jeep, but not as easy. At my age, easier is better, and I figure you are close to my age.

I'm just finding it harder to justify owning a full-sized PU these days....It just sits there. I'm retired and do most of my tooling around in a 2019 KIA Soul.

Ya gotta have a truck. But I found it's nice to have a little car to get around and do short errands in.

My buddy gave me this little ford escort-type thing and man..it was so much easier than hopping in the truck and backing it out..

jump in and zip zip zip. Leave the truck parked and use a little car.

I have no need for a full sized pickup either. I'm just saying, a pickup is very handy, especially for rural people. You don't realize until you don't have one anymore. I've thought about the trailer idea, also.

we ARE in fact lowering emissions retard. But you don't think we are doing enough while giving a pass to the worst offenders.
What makes you think we've given them a pass and what do you think we ought to be doing? Nuking their coal plants?

I am a proud owner of a CO2 emitting Trundra pickup truck.

These Environmental Wackos can kiss my Cracker ass.

LOL NOT one of your climate people says anything bad about China or India or the developing nations they just rail against the US
It's where we live, it's where we vote and we are number two for total emissions. Why does this bother you so much? The same could be said for any other nation on Earth. Look at the per capita emissions of the Soviet Union or all the African and South American cultures reliant on firewood. Why do you never complain about them? Why is it always China and India?
