We have roughly 200% capacity that is currently idle. The only thing you have to worry about are The Central switching stations. They usually have an option to go over to manual. Many places still keep the old analog boards operational just for that reason. In my power plant we keep both systems running at all times... both the digital and the manual.

An EMP is far more dangerous because it directly attacks the generating equipment.
If it created a scenario wherein all the DC transformers were burned out which is a high possibility with an EMP attack it would take literally years to get back on our feet.

All the important places would be protected like government hide and facilities and military facilities. But I'm afraid refrigeration Nationwide will be lost for some time.

The implications here are catastrophic.
