Former President Donald Trump on Friday promised that if he is convicted of a crime and sentenced to prison, he will continue to run for president.

John Fredericks, the host of a pro-Trump talk show, asked the 2024 candidate whether a conviction resulting in a prison sentence would “stop” his bid for a second term.

“Not at all. There’s nothing in the Constitution to say that it could,” Trump replied. “Even the radical left crazies are saying, ‘No, that wouldn’t stop!’ And it wouldn’t stop me either.”

Legally speaking, Trump is correct. The most famous example of an incarcerated person running for president is Socialist Party nominee Eugene V. Debs. Debs received nearly 1 million votes in 1920 while he was imprisoned for his opposition to World War I.

It is unclear what would happen if Trump won while incarcerated, however, since there is no precedent for that occurring in a major federal election. Some scholars have suggested that he could pardon himself immediately upon taking office.

Wow, wouldn't that be something - a convicted criminal running for president. I can't imagine what the rest of the world must think of us. I think that Trump must know that he will be convicted. The founding fathers never anticipated a Donald Trump. What do you think?

Trump made a point about a "conviction". Huff Post reporter Daniel Marans added the incarceration fantasy. It must be true or it wouldn't be on the internet.

This doesn't mean that Trump thinks he's going to be convicted at all, much less sent to prison.

It just means that he recognizes that some supporters think he might be, and he wants to ensure them that he is in the office for the duration.

Although it would be convenient for presidential debates, for sure. They would know for sure that they would be in the prison yard.

If Trump is convicted, and tbe Democrats will not stop their efforts until he as a threat is destroyed, the Trump 'Campaign' to save America from the on-going Socialist Democrat assault on the Constitution and Rule of Law must come to an end.

A new 'champion', just as passionate and as fierce, is needed.

I'm not sure such a Patriot (not politician) exists.

The inevitable is coming. He will be in jail but not the president.
