This mistake was due to the fact that the number of non-Jews who died at Auschwitz (Gypsies, political prisoners, Soviet POW's, gays) had been exaggerated. A Google search on the Internet can provide you with a detailed list of Jews who died in each country of Europe that was occupied by the Nazis. If you add up the total of all the countries, it comes out to something like 5,700,000, but there were many undocumented deaths as well. Besides, as someone pointed out above, this has nothing to do with the I/P conflict.
