If true, excellent.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration on Monday moved to end asylum protections for most Central American migrants in a major escalation of the president’s battle to tamp down the number of people crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

According to a new rule published in the Federal Register, asylum seekers who pass through another country first will be ineligible for asylum at the U.S. southern border. The rule, expected to go into effect Tuesday, also applies to children who have crossed the border alone.

Finally!

Hummm....going to think on this one awhile.....knee jerk reaction is it does nothing as far as Mexicans, but targets central Americans......if it only applies to the southern border crossers, may have legal arguments against it.....

He should take it one step further and make it apply to Mexicans as well.

Which effective nullifies asylum for most people without even hearing their plea.

It's hard to believe that so many American who have done absolutely nothing to earn the privilege of living in America are so quick to deny others that have suffered so much and fought so hard for the opportunity to become an American.

A Venezuelan women whose life was threaten by goverment officials traveled 2000 miles through 4 countries mostly on foot carrying her 2 year old son will likely be denied the opportunity to apply for asylum due to this regulation.

In my book anyone that would travel thousands of miles on foot carrying a child and spend months sleeping on the floor of an overcrowded detention camp for months certainly deserves at least an opportunity to apply for asylum.

That depends on the situation. Refugees accepted as victims of human trafficking get special benefits. There are limits on benefits for all adults. Both refugees and asylum seekers must be accepted into the program before they receive benefits.

Most people believe benefits for asylum seekers and refugees are the same as US citizens but they aren't. Medicaid is more limited as is TANF. However, there are services to help get a job since work is part of the responsibility of the person. After 1 year in the US they can apply for permanent residency which is a first on the road to becoming a citizen. However becoming a permanent resident is not an automatic process. You have to meet certain requirements.

He's using a legal strategy to defend his EO. If the asylum seek crosses through a country that is not a participant in the UN agreement on human trafficking, they can not apply for asylum so it would not work for Mexico.

Whether his actions will stand up in court is questionable. What is clear is that it usurps the power of congress and it's just part of his make America White Again plan.

Not true. They are still permitted to stop in the first country and then apply for asylum in the US from there. Your Venezuelan woman would have been better served and would have been kinder to her 2-year-old son if she had stopped at the first available country to ask for asylum there and then pursued filing for asylum here. But no, she made that 4000 mile journey. Why? Obviously, the freebies are more generous showered on cockroaches like her here than in any other countries she transited. Not sorry.

Most illegal immigrants no longer come from Mexico. The numbers have been dropping for years. The major problem is Central America.

I seriously doubt she walked thousands of miles. It's difficult to walk 100 miles, much less THOUSANDS OF MILES.

I understand that but my response was specifically directed at Dekster. Thanks for helping, though.

Bingo! She was most likely provided comfortable transportation up until the last few miles.

As soon as people seeking asylum in the United States are accepted as refugees they are eligible for public assistance just like any other person, including cash welfare, food assistance, and health coverage. Many refugees depend on public benefits, but over time may become self-sufficient.
