And the new government in Kiev had already set up plans to strip Crimea of her autonomy.

Actually, as many times as I've been to Crimea, I always met ethnic Russians only (!) who would tell me: "We know, sooner or later Crimea will be back to Russia!" And they were right, thanks God. I can't wait till all Eastern Ukraine returns back to Russia, because that's where we belong.

Bandera is an official Ukrainian hero since the last year. Those clowns have already named quite a few streets after Bandera. In Western Ukraine they even renamed "Moscow" sausage and now it's called "Bandera" sausage.

The incoming Ukrainian president will have to turn some attention to history, because the outgoing one has just made a hero of a long-dead Ukrainian fascist.

Fact: Crimea, just short 2 years ago was annexed by (carefully un-marked) Russian forces, while Russian puppet leadership was being upended in Kiev..

Maybe Putin doesn't want Ukraine and other ex-USSR satellites back, but he does want them to be under his thumb, proxying to Europe. Crimea was a warning shot for rejecting him and looking to the west.

Even if this is completely true, and he completely achieved it, how would it be a threat to the US or even our interests?

Russia doesn't want them. One of the reasons that Britain voted for Brexit was that they didn't want the Ukraine to join the EU because of their massive debt.

That lingering stench is from the Clinton administration. The first President Bush had promised Gorbachev that if he liberated the Soviet satellite states the US would not allow them to join NATO, thus relieving Russian fears that they would be surrounded by their Cold War enemies, but when Bill Clinton became president after spending twenty years prancing around the Ozarks, he immediately broke Bush's promise to Gorbachev and took 12 of these states into NATO. In addition, Clinton sent US "experts" to Russia to advise the Russians on how best to move from communism to a free enterprise economy, but the advice Clinton's experts gave was to privatize everything as quickly as possible, and this led to economic chaos which lasted until Putin reclaimed much of the property Clinton had persuaded the Russians to give away and decided to stand up to bullying from the US.

After Clinton's foolish and perfidious behavior, of course the Russians distrust the US, and when Hillary foolishly identified Russia as an adversary in her convention speech, she reinforced this distrust. Trump, on the other hand, understands there is no reason for the US and Russia to be adversaries any longer and plans to try to repair some of the damage Bill Clinton did to US Russia relations.
