Trade Wars - Its on !!!

yeah , for the life of me i can't ever remember the USA ever winning or losing a trade war in my 68 years , And for those 68 years i have always had a pretty nice lifestyle . When was the last tradewar that the USA has been involved in that the USA won or lost , does anyone know ??.

Trade war? so the libtards are rooting for a trade war? wow!!!
There will not be a trade war...just a lot of belly aching for a while...but when the nations in question see their wealth increase because a good economy and rising tide raises all ships they will stop talking about the new tariffs....
They will see what Libs always fail to see...that a wealthy advancing United States is good for the region and the world...we are all linked...

US on brink of trade war with EU, Canada and Mexico as tit-for-tat tariffs begin

The United States and its traditional allies are on the brink of a full-scale trade war after European and Canadian leaders reacted swiftly and angrily to Donald Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium producers.

The president of the European commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, promised immediate retaliation after the US commerce secretary, Wilbur Ross, said EU companies would face a 25% duty on steel and a 10% duty on aluminium from midnight on Thursday.

Europe, along with Canada and Mexico, had been granted a temporary reprieve from the tariffs after they were unveiled by Donald Trump two months ago.

However, Ross sent shudders through global financial markets when he said insufficient progress had been made in talks with three of the US’s traditional allies to reduce America’s trade deficit and that the waiver was being lifted.

Wall Street slumped as the Dow Jones Industrial Average shed more than 200 points, while shares across Europe also declined.

The move from Washington – which comes at a time when Trump is also threatening protectionist action against China – triggered an immediate and angry response from Canada, Brussels and from individual European capitals.

Juncker called the US move “unjustified” and said the EU had no choice but to hit back with tariffs on US goods and a case at the World Trade Organisation in Geneva.

So what is going to happen here then ?

This is going to help Trump significantly come mid terms and beyond. he can rightfully say "I am the only president who will stand up to International trade abusers and all those trying to lower your wages, steal your jobs and allow illegal immigrants to flood the market with cheap labor".

There is an entire generation who have no clue about how great America once was, they've been indoctrinated to think America is just one of many nations. They are clueless of communism, fascism, abusive Fiefdoms found in socialism etc. Now some of them are getting a taste of a president with some courage and I am guessing many of them are starting to appreciate it.

Imagine graduating and thinking the world is your oyster only to find out your industry has been outsourced? Now here is Trump telling countries, "you don't create jobs or abuse us on trade, you're going to pay a price." Then, he actually goes out and does it!

Sorry. Americans want fair, honest trade, where it is about best and brightest, innovation, creativity, etc. Not a race to the bottom to feed a billion low wages Chinese, while America, Japan and others starve.

For the record, no nation has been fleeced even a fraction of the amount that America has, it's not even close. You're looked at, as the big, strong dummy on the beach who is pushed around by the fast talking skinny conman, who knows if you lose your shyte you can pound them, but you never do.

While I agree that many nations get a better deal out of our trade agreements, it is a pretty tough row to hoe claiming that we have been fleeced so badly while our economy represents 25% of the entire world though.

Apparently things are working out really well for us. Interestingly enough, the TPP was supposed to help control China's influence as they are the only ones that are coming anywhere near us in economic power but that was trashed.

Well in regards to TPP, you have bilateral deals with most of those in the TPP agreement. It ended up being just another way to drive jobs to low wage places.

I hope many appreciate Trumps pushback, it's overdue and the next generation has to pick up the mantle.

It may very well be - we will have to see how it plays out. So far, Trump has actually been pretty solid on FP much to my surprise. I have to wonder how this will end up.

should be interesting to see who wins this trade war .

The same as always...the wealthy.
As they watch their profits go up.
American-made widget sells for $11 now - Chinese-made widget sells for $10 now.
After tariffs - Chinese made one then costs $12.50.
Does American widget manufacturer keep price at $11? Are you kidding?
Of course not...they raise price to $11.50. So they make more money, keep price under imported one and the consumer pays more.
That is how major tariffs (usually) work.

Who loses? The same as always...the poor/middle classes.
As they have to pay more for everything that is directly/indirectly effected by the tariffs.

And for those of who naive enough to think American manufacturers will build more plants to take up the slack - guess again. These companies have no idea how long the INCREDIBLY fickle Trump will keep the tariffs on.
These companies are not going to spend hundreds of millions to build new factories when the tariffs could end tomorrow.
All the American manufacturers will do is maybe add a second/third shift. But there is NO WAY they will spend mega-bucks on expansion solely because of the tariffs.

The people opposed to this trade war are morons. The way to cancel it is not to shout that Europe and Canada and Mexico as well as China are going to hit us back. It’s to point out how international the world really is. Go to South Carolina and highlight the jobs from the BMW plant there. Go to Tennessee and show the folks how many people are employed by Volkswagen at their factory. Georgia and show folks how the Kia’s are made.

Toyota’s in Texas, and the list goes on, and on and on. JCB plants all over the place. Ask the workers how they feel when their factories may be shut down because of the pending Trade War? Ask the local communities how they feel.

Nope, that would take work, and knowledge, and let’s not forget the ability to think when the name Trump is used. That last part is impossible for folks opposed to Trump. When you say the name, they begin twitching like a patient at a Lyme Disease research facility who is having an epileptic event.

They don’t think. They don’t want to argue their point to the people. Why? They think anyone who would vote or support Trump is an idiot. So why explain things to an idiot, why make any arguments to an idiot? They won’t do it, and they will continue to lose the argument.

You could argue about the exported cars we would be sending overseas, including those foreign brands built here. But no, we won’t be discussing that. We could argue about how the trade wars will hurt American farmers, and cause them to take years getting back to the market share they have now.

Nope, all we are going to do is scream Trump is a traitor and an idiot. Because the real idiots are the ones who refuse to do it the right way.
A lot of liberals fully support Trump's tariffs. To many, it's a leftist dream. The support of capitalism and trade were a couple of the few things that were admirable about the GOP. That's gone now.

Nah. The Left would rather eat a raw turd than see anything happen to NAFTA because it was Clinton that got it. Also the left believes that with trade, we are exporting not only products, but democracy and human interconnectedness.

It’s why the Union members abandoned Hillary in 2016. The Left didn’t take their concerns seriously.
The U.S. has massively prospered from NAFTA. Look at the state of Mexico, if anybody should be complaining about NAFTA, it's them.

We have also lost to NAFTA. The aforementioned union people will tell you of factories moved south.

It's become more than clear that orange turd wants to drive our allies away and draw in the Chinese and Russians.

And AGAIN, Republicans in Congress don't say a word. They are the enablers of the Mussolini wannabe.

This is a very solid point - Trump has certainly not proven to be consistent by any means and no matter the tariffs no company will invest in anything without some stability.

What just happened: Trump's trade moves

This morning, the Trump administration announced it will impose tariffs of 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum on countries within the European Union, as well as Canada and Mexico. The decision hit the stock marketsimmediately following the announcement, with the Dow falling about 250 points.

The big picture: Trump's trade war now extends far beyond China, and is hitting the U.S.' closest allies, all while NAFTA negotiations with Canada and Mexico continue.

Canada will impose retaliatory tariffs against the United States in response to the Trump administration's decision to extend steel and aluminum tariffs to Canada. During a press conference Thursday afternoon, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the American decision "totally unacceptable," adding he finds it "inconceivable" that "Canada could be considered a national security threat to the United States."

The details: Canada will impose its own tariffs against American steel, aluminum, and other products in the amount of $16.6 billion at rates of 25% and 10%, which represents the total value of Canada's 2017 steel and aluminum exports to the U.S. They'll go into effect on July 1, remaining until the U.S. ends its own tariffs.

Gee, maybe the EU will drop its tariffs on the US?
Why is it OK for the EU to impose tariffs, but if President Trump does then its “foolish”?

Trump is starting a global trade war

America's biggest allies and trade partners are promising to fight back against US tariffs that threaten to spark a global trade war.
The European Union, Canada and Mexico said Thursday that they will respond to new US tariffs on steel and aluminum with punitive measures targeting American products worth billions of dollars.
Jean-Claude Juncker, president of the European Commission, said the bloc would move ahead with tariffs that are expected to affect roughly $7.5 billion worth of US exports. It will also lodge a case with the World Trade Organization (WTO).
"The United States now leaves us with no choice but to proceed with a WTO dispute settlement case and with the imposition of additional duties on a number of imports from the United States," Juncker said in a statement.
............and like all "wars" the US can never really "win"

War on drugs
War on violence
War for terror.
