Tom Perez: Obama’s Radical Labor Secretary Nominee

March 15, 2013
By Matthew Vadum

President Obama intends to nominate in-your-face radical lawyer Thomas Perez as his next Secretary of Labor, according to media reports.

Now an assistant attorney general at the U.S. Department of Justice, Perez is a former top aide to the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) and possibly a perjurer, which makes him a perfect fit for the ethically-challenged Obama cabinet.

...

Perez, like so many Obama administration officials, believes that America is a seething hotbed of “Islamophobia,” filled with ignorant racist rubes who irrationally fear the Muslim religion. He has worked with hardcore Islamist groups such as the terrorist-linked Islamic Society of North America and applauded Islamists for lobbying against airline security measures.

He played a major role in enacting the Church Arson Prevention Act, legislation based on the false premise that black churches were being targeted with disproportionate frequency by arsonists.

...

He has targeted Maricopa County, AZ Sheriff Joe Arpaio, for legal harassment because he doesn’t like Arpaio’s tough-on-crime approach, especially with respect to illegal aliens.

Under Perez, the DOJ has refused to prosecute hate crimes committed against white Americans. He was reportedly instrumental in the Justice Department’s dismissal of a case involving two Philadelphia-based members of the New Black Panther Party who intimidated white voters on Election Day 2008.

...

Perez is on record favoring the use of affirmative action in hiring at higher education and healthcare facilities. Perez appeared to argue that medical doctors should push for racial quotas in the hiring process because racial diversity among physicians somehow improves healthcare outcomes.

...

Perez likens bankers to KKK members, arguing that racial discrimination is afoot whenever a member of a minority group is turned down for a loan. The only difference between bankers and Klansmen is that bankers discriminate “with a smile” and “fine print,” but they are “every bit as destructive as the cross burned in the neighborhood,” Perez said.

...

Just another day in the Obama administration.

The Black Panther intimidation hoax was debunked long ago. Two guys standing around poses no threat.

Oh wait, they were black. I guess that makes it different. The white teabaggers inside the polling sites physically confronting voters is okay with you, right?

wow, so now it's a hoax to stand around with night sticks outside a polling place

Does this guy Perez surprise anyone, everyone in this administion is a radical progressive or Commie

Here's a thumbnail vita of the man

Perez has spent his entire career in public service. He began his law career as a law clerk for Judge Zita Weinshienk of the United States District Court for the District of Colorado from 1987 to 1989.

Perez spent 12 years in federal public service, from 1989 until 2001. He spent the bulk of his federal public service at the United States Department of Justice. He was a federal prosecutor for the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. In so doing, he prosecuted and supervised the prosecution of some of the Department's most high profile civil rights cases, including a hate crime case in Texas involving a gang of white supremacists who went on a deadly, racially motivated crime spree directed at African Americans.

He later served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights under Attorney General Janet Reno. Among other responsibilities, Perez chaired the interagency Worker Exploitation Task Force, which oversaw a variety of initiatives designed to protect vulnerable workers.

From 1995 until 1998, Perez served as Special Counsel to Senator Edward Kennedy, and was Senator Kennedy's principal adviser on civil rights, criminal justice and constitutional issues. For the final two years of the Clinton administration, Perez served as the Director of the Office for Civil Rights at the United States Department of Health and Human Services.

From 2001 until 2007, Perez was a professor at the University of Maryland School of Law, where he taught in the school's nationally recognized clinical law and law and health program. Perez is currently a part-time member of the faculty at the George Washington School of Public Health.

From 2002 until 2006, Perez was a member of the Montgomery County Council. In this capacity, he represented 175,000 residents in Silver Spring, Kensington, Takoma Park and Wheaton. Perez was the first Latino ever elected to the Council, and served as Council President in 2005.

He's about what I'd expect from this administration.

A long time policy WONK leaning toward the DEM POV on issues.

I'm not thrilled, but then I'm not much enamored with democratic limo liberals, generally.

They tend to say all the right things but...

Swallow, their you go again with that liberal spin you cvck bite...

The National Rifle association supposedly opposed gun laws that restricted African-American gun ownership and in some instances offered support to Black Americans seeking to defend themselves with firearms. In 1958, retired Marine Robert Williams opened a chapter of the NAACP in Monroe, North Carolina. Monroe was also Klan country, and the KKK mounted several vicious assaults agains African-Americans in Monroe. In 1960, Williams applied for and was granted a charter to establish an NRA chapter in Monroe; the association also provided firearms training materials. Mr. Williams and other black NRA members in Monroe subsequently successfully defended themselves with firearms against an attack coordinated between the KKK and the local police.

This history prompted erstwhile civil rights icon Ann Coulter to opine that all blacks should be supporters of the NRA; Coulter also recounted the story of Martin Luther King, Jr being denied a concealed weapons permit. Coulter instructed us that, as with slavery, it was the Republican Party and the NRA that were on the side of black people, not the libs and Dems.

It would have been intimidating if they were 'white' or 'conservatives'. Betcha. The left are so fucking hypocritical.

If you think night sticks are intimidating, what do you think about folks who show up at town hall meetings or capitol buildings openly carrying firearms? Is that not meant to intimidate?

The decision by the DOJ to drop the bullshit non-issue NBP case happened in May of 2009.

Perez didn't take over the Civil Rights Division until October of that year.

Guess what that means...
