To Cut or Not to Cut

Circumcision should not be covered by insurance either since it is an elective procedure.
I do not want my rates to be higher because of circumcisions.

stop being an idiot...are you gonna stop all electives? and why does insurance pay for viagria?

Taxpayer-funded health insurance (Medicare, -caid, VA) do not pay for Viagra, Levitra, or Cialis.

When he mentioned his premiums going up, I think uscitizen was talking about private insurance.

I wonder how much Viagra etc. coverage does add to the average insurance premium? That stuff ain't cheap. But then birth control isn't usually covered.

I guess the insurance companies want people to have kids. Lots and lots of young, healthy, premium generating kids.

Let me guess, this idiot is also pro choice? Let's let a woman choose to abort or not, but let's not let a parent choose what is best for their infant.

So you agree that the government should not be involved in a woman's right to choose?

I don't believe there should be a LAW one way or another on abortion. No. But, I don't want MY tax dollars to go towards paying for someone to have an abortion either.

Rick

Well, I don't want my tax money used to teach stupidity like abstinence only.. or paying for unnecessary wars of choice.

But you can't always get what you want.

No....one less stupid wedge-issue for the Democrats to take advantage of.

I also think we shouldn't be paying to kill babies ether.

Abstinence is stupid????

Heck...let's go out on a date Jill.

Abstinence ONLY is stupid.

As was one million dollars of our tax money spent on whether prayer works.

I can see your point. I also don't see why we have to gut our economy to save the planet when it's been discovered we don't have the effect on it that has been advertised.

Abstinence is something we should always teach our kids. I think it would cut down on unwanted pregnancies greatly. However....teaching our kids how to screw in class is in my opinion a very bad idea.

Myth #9: Circumcision prevents AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
Fact: Some studies show that circumcision has a slight preventive effect for AIDS and some STDs; however, other studies show an insignificant or opposite effect, especially for chlamydia. The bottom line: sexual practices have a much greater effect on the chance of becoming infected than circumcision status. If someone acts on the misconception that circumcision alone will protect them, they are taking unwise chances

Perhaps your sources are old, new studies have proven that circumcision has a huge effect on the transmission of HIV.

Circumcising adult men is an effective way to limit transmission of the virus that causes AIDS. The National Institutes of Health announced today that two clinical trials in Africa have been stopped because an independent monitoring board determined the treatment was so effective that it would be unethical to continue the experiment.

"We now have confirmation — from large, carefully controlled, randomized clinical trials —showing definitively that medically performed circumcision can significantly lower the risk of adult males contracting HIV through heterosexual intercourse," said Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. "While the initial benefit will be fewer HIV infections in men, ultimately adult male circumcision could lead to fewer infections in women in those areas of the world where HIV is spread primarily through heterosexual intercourse."

The NIH has been sponsoring two trials — one with 5,000 men, ages 15 to 49, in Uganda and a second with 2,784 men, 18-24, in Kenya. Half the men voluntarily underwent circumcision. The men were then monitored for about two years. Far more of the uncircumcised men became infected with HIV.

The studies found that the circumcised men in the Kenyan study were 48 percent less likely to get infected and 53 percent less likely in the Ugandan study.

Male Circumcision and Risk for HIV Transmission
Several types of research have documented that male circumcision significantly reduces the risk of HIV acquisition by men during penile-vaginal sex.

Compared with the dry external skin surface, the inner mucosa of the foreskin has less keratinization (deposition of fibrous protein), a higher density of target cells for HIV infection (Langerhans cells), and is more susceptible to HIV infection than other penile tissue in laboratory studies. The foreskin may also have greater susceptibility to traumatic epithelial disruptions (tears) during intercourse, providing a portal of entry for pathogens, including HIV. In addition, the microenvironment in the preputial sac between the unretracted foreskin and the glans penis may be conducive to viral survival. Finally, the higher rates of sexually transmitted genital ulcerative disease, such as syphilis, observed in uncircumcised men may also increase susceptibility to HIV infection.

Now, personally, I'm not anywhere near as concerned about contraction of other, curable, STD's as I am about AIDS. That's why my son has been circumcised.

You can do what you want, but I'm going to do anything I can to prevent my son from contracting HIV, and if losing his foreskin lowers his chances by 50%, well then I'm sure as hell going to have it removed.

Is this shit never going to end!!?? Now the state of MA is being encouraged to ban circumcisions altogether. I'm listening to this nit-wit woman who is pushing this thing and I can't believe what I'm hearing. She insists parents (Jewish or otherwise) have no right to make this decision on behalf of their infant children and that it should be left up to the child at some later point in life to decide for themselves whether to be circumcised. All children should be left with all their body parts intact. She feels any religious reasons for circumcision should be overridden and that any sound medical reasons are arguable.

Perfectly sound logic, that's exactly how it should be. Fact of the matter is; despite what you've heard, there are no legitimate pros or cons for either side of the issue. As such, no man child should be disfigured based on the decision of another, not even his parents.

What happens if the doctor used the wrong method of circumcision and the protection is not there?

Way back when I was a baby and they sharpened my pencil they left it in the pencil sharpener a little too long and now all I have is a short stubby pencil to write with...:(

"Wrong method?"

WTF is Circumcision in New England = Triple Bypass Heart Surgery?

I'm just curious, Granny: Why so passionate about Circumcision?

Are you a Fan of The Uncut?

Actually, darlin', your [redacted] quote was not my personal quote, but me quoting the old goat who wants all children to be left with all their body parts. Personally, I think circumcision is the healthy thing to do and most likely the reason behind the religious beliefs of Jewish people. The same principle applies to Jewish dietary laws - some food is healthy for ya and some ain't. I will admit I think the Orthodox Jews may take it a step too far, but they're not bothering me because I don't eat at their table and don't have to wash their dishes, so who am I to judge them?

It's likely that I'm not a fan of The Uncut ... my son got clipped 36 years ago and we've never had a discussion about it. Besides that, if I were confronted with the "experience" of an Uncut I believe it wouldn't happen ... I'd be way too concerned about what might be lurking in all that extraneous flap that might be passed on to me.

Barbaric religious customs.

Lets just sacrifice some baby sheep instead?
Rod says, if you want to keep a cheesey bacteria gathering flap of skin on your child go for it. You have no right to prevent another parent from having their child circumcised. Religion out the window on this issue but feel free to beat your drum anyhow.

So you're throwing a hissyfit because they won't let you mutilate your child's genitals?
I'm betting the MAniac against that parents choice (to circumcise the babe) also is cool with partial birth abortions (murder prior to birth).

I enjoy veal quite often...and little lamb chops. When I eat little lamb chops, I sometimes wonder if it belonged to Mary at one time or another.

She's entitled to her opinion. It's interesting, though, that she wants the State to intervene. I bet she voted for Obama.
