The World Watches - Something else

I would go to any game that had free tickets! Yay socialism!

Go back to college and get some free student tickets to the home games ;)
Gators at Vanderbilt this fall --- my treat.. Or Tenn at Vanderbilt. Whichever is on the schedule. Big ass party..

I've been in Chapel Hill when Duke-Carolina squared off in the Dean Dome. You will never beat that big ass party.

Good. Because I was really really worried about you spending too much time on the Internet and not enough time actually living life. I'm honestly relieved that you're not buried in a pile of cheetos with charger cords wrapped around your body..

Says the guy with 25 times the posts

Look at all my posts! I must really have no life at all. :p

Watch the Olympics -- pick a new sport to try. Something with a rifle, a bicycle, and a neat uniform..

Nah, I'm plenty busy with my two jobs. I like my free time, being a loser and hanging out with Flacaltenn. :smiliehug:

You agreed! Lol! Hey! I work too much and have too many bills to have a life! :p

haven't watched the Olympics in many years.

most of the sports they show are boring AF or you have to be a player to understand whats going on.

seriously, what's fun about watching a handful of people run 26 miles?

Who wants to watch a pro NBA team steamroll the world, again?

I was on a swim team, so I can get into that, but have no idea why anyone else would.

Wrestling only gets highlights, you might see one medal match in boxing or hear about something you didn't even know was a competitive sport.

and every time there's some douche coming out of the closet, this year some America hating **** on Team America is fencing in a hijab, and that made the news.

I like the gymnastics. That's really the only thing I like about the summer Olympics. I prefer to watch the winter Olympics. They have the luge racing which is pretty cool, skiing, and I really love the figure skating, especially pairs.

haven't seen anything new in gymnastics is decades and no one has gone for a triple flip since I was a teen

Still, they do some impressive things. I took gymnastics, so I can appreciate how difficult it is to do those things. Parallel bars are not easy. Lol.

No; just as popular it appears.

What happened? Did the South run out of rocks to throw at things?

Don't know, but since your picture comes from a May 2009 usa today article entitled "Economic woes cast cloud over motor sports' big weekend ", I assume what happened in your photo was the great recession.

Fixed it for you:

5 reasons for NASCAR's empty seats

“Sunday’s Crown Royal Combat Wounded Coalition 400 at The Brickyard at Indianapolis Motor Speedway was the latest sign of decline, registering the lowest estimated attendance in the event's 23 years — about 50,000 fans in stands that can accommodate 250,000."

So sorry.

So, you hate NASCAR too? Lol. WTH?

Didn’t say that. Just wondered why the southerners got tired of watching some guy named Dale turn left for 3 hours.

For the same reason Millions tune in to see grown men bat a tiny ball around a manicured lawn. You ever tried driving 200mph three abreast and pulling 3 Gs in the turns? You can try it at many speedways for a couple hundred bucks. Think you got an olympic team that can change 4 tires, make chassis adjustments, clean the grill and gas the car in under 14 seconds?

It's actually a tradition grown out of local "distillers" trying to outrun the law.

Well, Soccer is a sport where you have opponents; not competitors making it more difficult by definition.

The topic was that there are a lot of unsold tickets for the Olympics. I pointed out that there are a lot of unsold tickets for NASCAR which is just as exotic a sport as curling is in other parts of the world. . I was going to do the NFL as well and point out how the gate is way down in the NFL except we got off onto a tangent about it.

Neutral site tailgating is far better IMHO. Texas OU back in my youth; still hot enough to where you don’t need to wear too many layers but cool enough to where you don’t fry. I would imagine that the Army/Navy game in Philly every year would be epic as far as the party outside the stadium.

The Olympics are no longer that important.

Personally I stopped watching when it became acceptable for professional athletes to compete

BTW --- those track seat sales are STILL the economy. And some changes in Nascar rules that made no competitive sense.

And it's not different than the NFL attendance which is WAAAY down. A couple recent years were lows not seen since 1998..

Why Has NFL Attendance Declined by Over 2 Million Fans in the Last 36 Months?

I think most sport attendance is down, college or professional, across the spectrum. Is it because we are so poor is it because we are afraid of being blown up? Who knows. Can't think of a sport event that I would attend if you gave me free tickets.

You can go to a sporting event fight traffic to get there, pay parking, pay to get in, pay for overpriced parking, sit in nosebleed seats, listen to the obnoxious fan behind you, get herded out of the event, sit in a parking lot that doesn't move for awhile, fight traffic going home or turn on the TV, sit in your chair, no lines for the restroom, hit pause on the TV, drink your beer, rewind the play or crash over and over and over, when it is over, get up go to bed.

Tough decision.

You missed having a beer dumped on your 12 yr old daughter during some excitement. Kinda ruined it for her. But now she loves to be in the stands.

Where was the Olympics with the vuvuzela (sic?) horns? It was S. Amer also I think. I COULD NOT do that. Must have been more than a few people who got there and said "screw this"...

That's a teachable moment, when she learns what it looks like when her Dad knocks the teeth out of some asshole's mouth, or picks him up and drives his head through a seat back. Life lessons.

If you don't want to get beer on you -- don't go to a Nascar event. I wouldn't beat the crap out of all the tokers that were getting her second hand high at all those amphitheater rock concerts either.

Maybe at a World cup soccer tho --------------------- :meow:

Or you could go to a conference championship game like we had here a few years back; pay exorbenant (sp?) amounts for parking , tickets, concessions...have your team win and spend, literally, the entire night partying with people you've never met and will never see again and come up with the bull shittiest of reasons why you can't go to work the next day when you call your boss (who was just as blasted as you got) and do nothing but giggle at each other when she finally picks up her cell....

I'm all for spending (another) quiet evening at home and not putting up with the crowds and the idiots and the threat of getting blown to bits...

but as I get older, I find that I more and more regret what I didn't do more than regret what I did.

When the circus comes to town; it's fun to watch the circus. Yes, it's expensive, and yes the larger corporate entity you're feeding could give away the tickets and likely never miss a beat but it's just sort of nice to get out there sometimes.

A friend of mine wants to go see Elton John when he comes in a few weeks. Not a huge EJ fan but I admire 40 years in music. We get along fine and she likely won't go unless I go with her; it'll be fine for me to miss a re-run of Matlock and go to the concert and give her another memory to have....
