The Terrorists Have Won.

There are thousands of patriots who simply can't wait to see some U.S. soldiers screw up and smash some civilian heads so that they can unleash loan wolf attacks against federal targets. Those guys have nothing in common with McVeigh because it is their duty as citizens to fight tyranny at all costs, even against your vaunted military if that is what it takes.

And the SPLC is nothing more than a tool of disinformation for the establishment to smear people with buzzwords such as "terrorist", "racist", and "extremist".

Just because someone calls himself a patriot doesn't mean that he is one, or that others would view him as one. After all, McVeigh considered himself to be a patriot. Do you see him in that light?

No they haven't. We aren't dead or subject to their style of radical islam

No but we are subject to more Government oppression than ever before. The Terrorists have succeeded in ways they could have never imagined. Since 911 it has all gone downhill for our nation. We have allowed our Government to aquire unlimited power. We desperately need to reverse this awful course we're on.

But that wasn't their objective, therefore, they haven't succeeded.

And no the government hasnt acquired unlimited powers. and we can sure as hell take it back.
Even if by force afforded by the Founders and the 2nd Amendment as a last resort...:eusa_whistle:

Since 9/11, Senator Lindsey Graham has said repeatedly that we must fight the terrorists “over there” so we don’t have to fight them “over here.” But this week, Graham threw that all out the window. Apparently, we are now at war everywhere. Forever.

Commenting on the controversial Section 1031 of the National Defense Authorization Act — which many contend gives the federal government new powers to arrest American citizens without charge — Graham made clear this week that “1031, the statement of authority to detain, does apply to American citizens and it designates the world as the battlefield, including the homeland.”

The entire world is now a “battlefield”? “Including the homeland”?

There have been serious constitutional questions raised recently concerning whether our federal government should be able to arrest or assassinate American citizens overseas without charge or trial. This new and largely uncharted legal territory has been troublesome. But arresting or assassinating American citizens here in the United States without trial? Rounding up and holding American citizens indefinitely without charge? What country is this?

This is a new and unprecedented government power that should scare the living hell out of every last American. Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) rightly called it “one of the most anti-liberty pieces of legislation of our lifetime.” Jim Gilmore, former Virginia governor and chairman of the Congressional Panel on Terrorism, roundly denounced it: “The provisions of this bill undermine the basic safeguards that we enjoy as Americans. It is dangerous, and should not be supported by anyone: Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative, citizen or non-citizen.”

The would-be terrorists 'over here' tend to be right wing extremists ala Timoty McVeigh. John Matthews knows it. He worked undercover as a right wing white supremicist for years.

"Since President Obama’s election, the number of right-wing extremist groups—a term that covers a broad array of dissidents ranging from white supremacists to antigovernment militias—has mushroomed from 149 to 824, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Alabama-based civil-rights group."

Jesus how many times does this dumb ass left wing talking point have to be exposed as complete garbage? You left wing loonies really do believe that repeating a lie often enough makes it true don't you?:cuckoo:

McVeigh was a fool, but I'm sure he was a patriot in his own mind. If you examine his influences you won't find much commonality between him and the oath keepers for example. It's the duty of all Americans to ultimately oppose tyranny if necessary. Ditto for anyone else.

Yep, right wing conservative confederate Republicans have won. They have checked off nearly every point on their agenda.

We have suffered pretty awful Blow-Back here at home as a result of the 'War on Terror.' We are less free today than we were before 911. And that's probably a huge understatement.

It's not a lie. It's a fact. Terrorism is terrorism, regardless from which side of the political spectrum it originates, or what their rationale is.

The KKK were terrorists.

Hezbollah is widely viewed as a terrorist organization. So was The Irgun and one of its notable commanders, Menachem Begin, who later went on to become Israel's Prime Minister.

Let me know when PETA takes up arms and/or starts bombing tanneries, and I'll call them terrorists too.

When the veto is overridden, this bill should be challenged to the SCOTUS. It's an aberration to the Constitution.

This is 100X worse than the Patriot Act.

The irony is that it will take the POS in chief to veto this debacle and save us. I suspect he has political motivation at heart and no real interest in liberty but I'll take what I can get.

Obama has 'said' he will veto the bill. But based on the vote split (only seven opposing) the veto will be overridden.

That's a good point. He gets to play good guy but still gains and advantage by losing. I can't prove my assertion, but I don't trust that this president has any interest in true American ideals.

Interventionist Blow-Back usually stays outside of our Borders. But now it is affecting our own Nation significantly. 911 has been a disaster for Americans and their freedoms.

Not necessarily. Remember that the objectionable section did not stand alone; the bill in its entirety is a defense appropriations bill. All Congress has to do is amend it to remove the offending section, pass the amended bill, and send it to the president and he'll sign it.

Remember, too, that the bill was passed before word of that section got out to a lot of people. I know that Occupy is making a deal of it and assuming Obama does veto it there will be demonstrations about it; there are already email campaigns and phone campaigns to Congresscritters in protest. I would be very surprised if this wasn't a Tea Party issue as well, although I'm not in contact with that side of things so can't say from personal knowledge. Congress will do this sort of thing only to the extent they think they can get away with it politically.

And the sad part is how little people realize it. There is no statement that reflects this better than:

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Benjamin Franklin

What has happened to our Country? So many Americans just willing to sit back on their couches allowing their Governement to take all their freedoms away. Where are all the protests?

power/profit hungry corporate liberalism. AKA The Neocon movement.

They flushed the country down the toilet in the name of profits. Selfish pricks should all be arrested and held accused of treason.

Washington is using the War on Terrorism to slowly erode the legal boundary between "enemy combatant" and "American Citizen". They are slowly making it easier for the Feds to categorize anyone who opposes Government as a terrorist.

FYI: study history. This is how "closed" societies work. Study the Soviet Union, especially during the Cold War w/ the rise of the KGB. Governments throughout history use external threats to strip domestic legal rights and intimidate the press, e.g., "if you criticize us, than you side with the terrorists" (therefore you cannot criticize government: goodbye freedom). Governments always use fear to grow State Power. Always. Why doesn't the Right understand this? Why does the Right have so much faith in Washington? Why did they give Bush , i.e., government, the ability to use the War on Terrorism as a tool to change laws and grow Washington's power? When will the Rightwing voter stop trusting Washington so much. Don't they get it? It is always dangerous to grow state power, no matter how noble the cause. Listen, the world is a dangerous place. We will never be able to get rid of things like poverty or evil. We will never have total safety in skyscrapers or airplanes. Risk is the price of freedom. Please do not grow a big brother nanny surveillance state to protect us. Stop giving Washington more power to watch and detain American citizens! Stop growing government! Don't you morons get it? State power is more dangerous than islamic terrorism. There is a infinitesimal chance that you will be the victim of islamic evil doer. Please don't trade all your freedom in exchange for having Washington protect you from something less likely than a lightening strike. Stop growing government power! Government can't protect you! The biggest threat to freedom is big government - you morons

The point of the Patriot Act and the elimination of Habeas Corpus is to make it easier for Washington to monitor, frustrate, and detain politically disruptive citizens. This means that even men like Glen Beck can be more easily watched and silenced. (This is where the rightwing voter is sadly kept in the dark. They don't see how their own leaders have contributed to closing down of American Society. Folks, foreign enemies are always used to grow domestic state power. Always. This is why an open ended war - a war without end - will grow Washington's power more than FDR or LBJ could ever dream with SS or Medicare)

Most of the criticisms I discovered about the Bush administration's seizure of power came from the CATO Institute, which is very sympathetic to the Conservative Movement from a fiscal point of view.

The point of the War on Terrorism was to give Washington more power globally and domestically. And yes, the Islamic threat is real. . . . which is precisely why it has become such a useful tool for the expansion of government power.

FYI: Obama has continued all of Bush's policy, but he has shied away from pursuing a full blown War on Terrorism. Sadly, both Romney and Gingrich have stated that the War on Terrorism should come back with renewed vigor. They want to use the War on Terrorism to bring more of Washington's legislate behavior under the secretive cloak of "National Security". They want to insulate Washington's power from democratic review and oversight. (Folks, his is how national enemies are always used. Please turn off FOX News and study history) The rightwing presidential nominees have made it clear that they are going to increase the domestic surveillance powers of Washington in order to protect us from radical islam (-"hi, I'm from the government and I'm hear to protect you"). THIS IS THE OLDEST TRICK IN THE BOOK FOR GROWING STATE POWER. The rightwing presidential nominees are going to make Homeland Security bigger. (FYI: everyone knows that Homeland Security is the largest, most secrative, most unaccountable, most expensive big government bureaucracy ever created, right?

God help us. America is going to become a close society very soon. The Rightwing is coming back to Washington and they are going to use the War on Terrorism to increase domestic surveillance and shut down the free press. The Left is complicit because they are too weak to oppose the Bushies and Neocons.

Electing Ron Paul is probably THE ONLY thing that could reverse this process
