The Rise of Polarization in American Politics

Does CNN think the political world started in 1987 when shock jock Downey insulted people for a living? Does that guy, what's his name Smearconish really think Downey and freaking Jerry Springer and Sally Jessie were part of the "polarized media"? They were clowns taking advantage of the decline of civilized behavior on T.V. The media didn't have to be polarized when Cronkite was king and the son of card carrying communists and some hippie reporter brought down the Nixon administration with fake reports from a fake informant. The media didn't have to be polarized because there was no other source of information except the biased slanted view of the liberal media which hated all republicans until Talk Radio and Fox came along.
Exactly, brainwashed functional moron hater dupe. lol. And the GOP goes off the Idiot Cliff...

The tea party is anti-civilization and doesn't believe in taxes. They're nutz....Flaming fucking nutz...

I wish these assholes didn't have the power to do the damage that they have done.

The "Tea Party"? Does the radical left even understand what the "media" is or what the word "polarized" means? Walter Cronkite's spin single handedly was able to turn the Tet victory in the Vietnam war to the semblance of a defeat because there was no other information source except the left wing media at the time. Woodward and Bernstein were able to keep the identity of an informant secret until he died and couldn't verify the stories that were alleged. Anybody think that can happen today? You almost gotta laugh that CNN never used the word "polarized" until it went from a top news source to not much more than a postscript. Meanwhile they never stop whining about Fox even though they still have ABC, NBC, CNN, CBS, MSNBC, Al Jazeera, and most of the pulp rags.

The polarization has always been there.

The difference between today and 30 (or 200) years ago is, I believe, the scope or scale of the polarization.

An unanticipated outcome of the invention of radio and TV and cable and the Internet and smart-phones and tablets and lions and tigers and bears, oh my.

More informed people = more broad-scale intensity of opinion, as well as diversity of opinion.

More informed people would solve most of the problems. What we have is more misinformed people who will believe any conspiracy theory they hear.

Back in the 60's and 70's they had this thing called journalism and investigative reporting, not bs propaganda like Fox, Rush etc etc and bs ratings/controversy like corporate news.

It's the giant BS Pub propaganda machine, stupid. ...and the corrupt cowardly corporate media...

Yes but it STILL comes down to the person and his or her ability to reason and desire for the truth.
The truth is hard to find.

No Its not Franco. Politics is very simple to figure out. First you have to get your mind right. I reiterate the rest.
Only if you're a simpleton. You're a joke everywhere outside the Pub propaganda machine bubble. Thanks for 9/11, the stupidest wars ever, the corrupt world depression, and 6 years of mindless obstruction.

Or, any of the half-dozen or more Flaming Liberal media outlets...

First of all the article is based on the opinion of the host of a CNN show who is clearly a polarizing figure himself. The author of the opinion, Michael Smercouish hosts a "news" show on CNN at 9 AM on Saturday. You can almost guarantee a kid or two will accidentally tune in while he is searching for a cartoon show but it ain't no O'Reilly show. Here we are arguing about an opinion that is so poorly written that it doesn't even make much sense. Morton Downey and Sally Jesse Raphael cited in an article about political polarization? Is it about the mainstream media or fringe entertainers who host the equivlent of freak shows? It"s impossible for the media to be "polarized' if there is only one side. Until Rush Limbaugh's radio show burst into the limelight around 1989 the media was dominated exclusively by liberal opinion. Fox came along in the mid nineties and CNN and the rest of the slobs including CBS that tried to influence a presidential election with forged documents have never stopped whining about the unfairness of having to compete in the marketplace.

You don't have the brainpower or the willingness so you insult me. Sir, I will friggin bury you in a debate. You call me a simpleton to justify your ignorance.

You mean, when Jr. stole the election from Gore.

You can rehash crackpot theories over and over and over if you like, but Gore lost the election.

I mean, if Bush stole the election, why weren't you guys in the streets with guns and shit? Wouldn't you be obligated under such circumstances?

You weren't because you had no case. It was a made-up story to grouse over a lost election.
