So why do progressives wish to destroy the sense of nationalism that unifies all races and people under one flag and instead seek to divide and create boundaries to keep those people apart so they can't learn about each other?

If you have a skill which any manjack on the street can do, you are at the mercy of exploiters, and so you will need all the collective bargaining you can get. Every low skilled laborer has to enter into a compact with every other low skilled laborer not to stab each other in the back (not to be a "scab"), and to present a unified front to those who would exploit them so the laborers may achieve higher wages than they would earn if they were not unified.

That's all well and good. But at some point, you can screw the pooch. The collective can demand higher and higher wages, thinking the sky is the limit as long as they band together, but eventually the corporation is going to start eyeballing the developing world's laborers. After all, any manjack on the planet can do what you do, so your collective isn't as all powerful as you think it is.


The better plan is to acquire a skill which is not so ubiquitous. This is why you don't see a lot of labor unions in the high tech fields. People with those skills are rare enough they have much more leverage at the employment negotiation.

We need to train our workforce for the skills of tomorrow, not for the skills of Third World laborers.

and yet a lot of companies want to treat lower wage workers as 3rd world.

I will tell you this. You pay someone 15+ an hour and give them a 20-30 minute break in between and you can go forever ( long as the market wants your product.)

See my old job i made ten an hour. Everyone else in the field made more. It barely got me by. Meanwhile the owners and higher ups where getting fat Bonuses and pay due to my hard work. More to the point i loaded railcars, that fetch at most 5 million a car for threaded pipe. we did those constantly.

dont get me wrong here, im all for making money and being paid well, But im for logically thinking. If i was making 20 an hour and had a decent health plan i wouldnt have left, and thats the problem that place had. Shit pay, treated like shit, couldnt keep anyone for more than 6 months. didnt bother to figure out why. Just grind out more people so they can make a big bonus.

Never really got the idea how people would fight against raising wages...Everything else in this world is going up in price but wages...( outside of CEO's).....Its like they are fighting against themselves....

My husband was a member of SPEEA union from 1988 until this year. His last promotion took him out of the union.

That union was very good to us.

When the bush boy collapsed the economy in 2008 our 401k was basically destroyed, the value of our house was mostly gone and we know social security won't be much of anything if anything by the time we are 67 which is when we qualify for full social security. We knew we had not lost everything. We still had that wonderful pension. No matter what the government does we will get that pension and all the benefits that come with it.

For republicans who moan and groan about government programs I would think they would support unions since union workers won't have to depend on the government as much as non union workers when they retire. Unions save tax dollars by making sure that the company that people work at all their lives continues to support them after they retired. Unions also saves everyone money by making sure employees have good health care coverage so no medical bill goes unpaid. Which keeps costs down for everyone.

I wonder why republicans believe that the ceos and executives have a right to a contract for working a a corporation but the regular workers can't.

I also have to call them hypocrites because corporations have their own "unions" with the chamber of commerce plus all the "associations" that they join in connection to their industry. The ceos and executives get protections but the workers are on their own.
