At this point, I think it's important to point out that these two truths:

1. The Democrat Party, the liberal socialist ideology it espouses, and this America-hating worldview's handmaidens - who infect every aspect of our modern culture, from the press, the arts and entertainment industries, right on through to academia - pose a clear and present danger to our nation and our way of life, and...

2. ...the Republican Party possesses - indeed, has LONG possessed - an elitist element which holds our country in no higher regard than do the liberal socialists...

...do not mutually exclude one another. Both unfortunate facts can - and, in fact, do - exist simultaneously. So, to say, "Let's stop all this liberal-bashing, since the Republican Party is deficient, too", is nonsense, and - IMHO - agenda-driven.

Whew! Talk about your twisted logic and leaps of faith. I don't know what happened to this woman as a child, but it certainly traumatized her and left her with unresolved issues of xenophobia and fear of change.

"Multiculturalism" is just another buzz-word the right-wing in this country has latched onto in order to rattled the cages of their base and stir up a non-specific fear and resentment of anything that doesn't fall within their very narrow,blinkered definition of "normal". Wrong religion, wrong sexual orientation, wrong political party, wrong gender...If it doesn't fit within their world view with a rigid lockstep, it's just wrong.
