The Flint Water Crisis: An insight into Republicanism.

So the Governor of the state, who was trying to save money by switching to the nasty Flint River, is now blaming everyone else. Is he the Governor or just a part time caretaker? This is a typical GOP blame game.

November 8, 2011 – Governor Snyder declares a financial emergency setting the stage to appoint an Emergency Manager in Flint.

November 6, 2012 – In a referendum, voters repeal Public Act 4 of 2011’s expansion of the Governor’s financial emergency powers.

December 26, 2012 – Governor Snyder signs a new law (Act 436 of 2012) reinstating much of the law that voters had just rejected. The new law is not eligible for voter referendum.

April 25, 2014 – The Emergency Manager switches Flint’s water source to the Flint River."

do you actually read the entire story from the link?

""The decision to separate from Detroit Water and Sewerage Department and go with the KWA, which included the decision to pump Flint River water in the interim, were part of a long-term plan that was approved by Flint's mayor and confirmed by a City Council vote of 7-1 on March 25, 2013," Earley wrote.

Ex-emergency manager says he's not to blame for Flint River water switch

Former emergency manager Darnell Earley says he's not to blame for the decision to use the Flint River as the city's source of drinking water.

Council members voted 7-1 on March 25, 2013, to switch from Detroit water to the KWA, but never approved using the river as the interim water source for the city of Flint.

The switch proved disastrous, setting off a chain of health problems including lead poisoning of some children who drank the water.

A March 13, 2014, order signed by former Emergency Manager Gerald Ambrose for a water main cut-in at the water plant cleared the way for the switch to the river, according to emails released previously by the state Treasury."

It's like Christie trying too blame everybody for his bridge scandal.

Let's take it a step further. Republicans are often quite sinister. Flint as city engineers who know the condition of Flint's infrastructure including the lead pipes and the acidity and over all quality of the river water. I high school student knows that acidic water can dissolve lead. This is a problem in homes with copper pipes that were soldered with lead.

Republicans seem to have a unnatural hatred for the environment and children. It's hard to believe that Snyder's advisers didn't warn him about this. I suspect that he had a conversation that went something like this:

Expert: Governor, we must warn you that the pipes going to homes and business in Flint are lead.

Governor Snyder: Yeah so what?

Expert: The water from the already polluted Flint River had a very high Ph.

Governor Snyder: Yeah so what?

Expert: The acidity of the water will dissolve the lead and cause it to leach lead ions into the the drinking water.

Governor Snyder: Yeah so what?

Expert: Lead is a neurotoxin and it can cause irreparable brain damage in human beings.

Governor Snyder: Most of Flint's population is ******* and as a Republican I hate *******. Is there any way we can add more acid to the water?

It's funny how Republican whine like little bitches about what they call government overreach. Snyder committed a criminal act that will lead to the premature deaths and life long injuries to tens of thousands of people. Nothing will happen to this son of a bitch unless somebody metes out a little do it yourself justice.

Snyder is a tyrant.

There is an eerie silence on these boards about the ongoing water scandal in Flint Michigan with good reason. This crisis uncovers a republican tendency to do things that end up being detrimental to their constituents and everyone living near them.

The Snyder administration sparked the chain of events that led to the crisis back in April, 2014 amid a financial downturn. To save money, the decision to switch Flint's water source from Lake Huron to the Flint River was made on the ill fated advise of a state sanctioned emergency manager to Flint.

Noteworthy is the revelation that the Flint River had long had a reputation for being nasty when the state made the switch.. But the burgeoning indifference doesn't stop there. A 2011 study indicated that Flint River water had to be treated with anti- corrosion agents before it could be fit for human consumption. That didn't happen. Therein lies the culpability...the republicans dropped the ball and, either through abject stupidity or indifference, they failed those who put their trust ini them.

There is more. The callousness of these Michigan republicans underlines the inclination of the GOP to put material interests above human interests. Michael Pitt, a member of the law team representing the victims, puts it this way:

"He further lambasted state officials who, he alleged, learned of elevated lead levels in children's blood in 2014 and did nothing."

"They were staring at a public health emergency, and they sat on it for over 10 months," he said, further criticizing leaders who assured residents the water was safe when they knew it wasn't true"..

If what Pitt said is true, there is an element of criminality here.

Although these developments are shocking, I am not surprised by the cold insensitiveness of the Michigan republicans towards the people of Flint. Republicans have been against everything that makes America a better place to live for all classes of Americans. Some of the things republicans have tried to undermine is social security, MEDICARE and, ironically, the EPA. If they had their way there would be NO safety nets and the Great Depression might never have ended. Child labor would still be an ongoing phenomenon.

Given the historical agenda of republicanism...it should be clear that their actions speak louder than their words. If Trump wins, I fear the Flint water crisis gives us a glimpse of things to come. With a GOP congress, and GOP USSC to compliment Trumps in the White House..... be afraid...for nothing you breathe, drink or eat will be safe.

Hearings are now being conducted and the blame game is underway. Here is the link that we have been waiting for:

Like Chicago, why should we care that Democrats want to kill each other?

Hey cum breath, the city government in Flint had no say in the switch to Flint river water. I'd like to make Republicunt liars like you drink it at gun point.

The lead poisoning not only dooms the victims now, I have read that the lead does DNA damage that will inflict generations to come. So, whoever is to blame for this atrocity should be punish without mercy.

way to step out and just shout cause you can on a message board. You have zero facts to support that so thanks for playing on the web today.

BTW, do you even know where the lead pipes are at?

So, it really was about saving money or didn't you bother to read the link you posted?

"An e-mail obtained by Motor City Muckraker shows the deal would have saved the city $800 million over 30 years, which was 20% more inexpensive than switching to the Karegnondi Water Authority.

A high-ranking DWSD official told us today that Detroit offered a 50% reduction over what Flint had been paying Detroit. In fact, documents show that DWSD made at least six proposals to Flint, saying “the KWA pipeline can only be attributed to a ‘political’ objective that has nothing to do with the delivery – or the price – of water.”

You're a liar. The city mayor and your muslime hero's EPA let this happen:

The EPA’s top Midwest official told The Detroit News the agency knew about the lack of corrosion control in the water supply as early as April, after an EPA official identified problems with the drinking water, but did not make the information public.

The paper also cited email exchanges between EPA officials and Walling showing what it described as a “lack of urgency” over the matter and a greater focus on procedure rather than public safety. Walling and other officials repeatedly told residents the water was safe but blamed state and federal agencies for the problems.

There is little question that the state bears significant responsibility for the public health crisis. Snyder apologized in December and Michigan's top environmental regulator, Dan Wyant, resigned after a task force created by Snyder blamed problems on his agency.

The city had switched from Detroit's water system to Flint River water in a cost-cutting move in 2014, while under state financial management.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s top Midwest official said her department knew as early as April about the lack of corrosion controls in Flint’s water supply — a situation that likely put residents at risk for lead contamination — but said her hands were tied in bringing the information to the public.

Starting with inquiries made in February, the federal agency battled Michigan’s Department of Environmental Quality behind the scenes for at least
six months over whether Flint needed to use chemical treatments to keep lead lines and plumbing connections from leaching into drinking water. The EPA did not publicize its concern that Flint residents’ health was jeopardized by the state’s insistence that such controls were not required by law.

Instead of moving quickly to verify the concerns or take preventative measures, federal officials opted to prod the DEQ to act, EPA Region 5 Administrator Susan Hedman told The Detroit News this week. Hedman said she sought a legal opinion on whether the EPA could force action, but it wasn’t completed until November.

The state didn’t agree to apply corrosion controls until late July and didn’t publicly concede until October that it erroneously applied the federal Lead and Copper Rule overseeing water quality.

An EPA water expert, Miguel Del Toral, identified potential problems with Flint’s drinking water in February, confirmed the suspicions in April and summarized the looming problem in a June internal memo. The state decided in October to change Flint’s drinking water source from the corrosive Flint River back to the Detroit water system.

The EPA Also Knew Flint's Water Might Be Poisoned Last Year But Didn't Tell Anyone

Slate, a hard right wing, er no, wait a second....

Oh, but the Governor was also warned and he did nothing!

No. The MDEQ and the DHHS not only downplayed the extent of the lead contamination they lied about it and fabricated data. Like Governor Snyder said he should have asked more questions and not believed the answers.

BUT when you are counting on the professionals around you and they are lying their asses off to you and the rest of the planet, what can you do?

The bloody assholes knew right from the get go there was a problem AND DID NOTHING.

"After missing warning signs of spiking childhood lead poisoning that occurred few months after switching to a corrosive river water source in 2014, outside pressure forced officials at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to closely scrutinize their data in July 2015.

They discovered scientifically conclusive evidence of an anomalous increase in childhood lead poisoning in summer 2014 immediately after the switch in water sources, but stood by silently as Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) officials repeatedly and falsely stated that no spike in blood lead levels (BLL) of children had occurred. DHHS employees later stonewalled efforts by outside researchers who questioned MDEQ statements and withheld damning documents but released incomplete data suggesting that there were no problems — DHHS officials ultimately fessed up only after incidence of childhood lead poisoning skyrocketed above 10% in the two Flint zip codes with highest water lead risk during summer 2015!"

Way more at link that will just make you want to spit bullets over how they lied repeatedly.

No they didn't just switch from Detroit's water system to Flint River. The city council approved a move to KWA and signed a new deal with them but they wouldn't be up and running for a couple of years.

Detroit was threatening to cut Flint off. Sour grapes. That's when they had to switch to Flint River. Nevertheless everyone involved from MDEQ, DHHS and the EPA did fucking nothing even though they knew there was lead poisoning almost right from the get go. This is on record.
